Hey!

Check out a few items from her holiday collection (love!):
And her fall collection: If you really want to go for a unique look at your company’s holiday shindig, try one of her frocks! They range in price from $250-$600–not bad for a show stopping piece. Find out where to buy at www.nadianour.com
Bisous!
So the chill has definitely set it, and if you’re a guy, you might be a bit confused as to what you can rock to differentiate yourself from the collared shirt, plain jacket masses.
For a chic look, check out jackets by Wendel Johnston:
Specializing in tailored jackets with edge, Johnston fashions hooded wool creations in colors ranging from deep brown to black, along with classics patterned jackets (think pinstripes) chic-ified with piping on lapels and pockets: Even John Legend is a fan! If you want to add a bit of urban edge to your ho hum wardrobe, visit www.wendeljohnston.com for information. If you’re in NYC, you’re in luck! Visit his stand every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 11-6:30pm at Saint Patrick’s Old Cathedral Outdoor Market at Prince Street between Mulberry & Mott.
Tell him I sent you!
Bisous!
Hey!
So before Fashion Week begins and we get lost in the chaos of established designers, I wanted to put you on to up-and-comer Leon Curry…
… 22 year old designer and creator of the Ellie Owen line: A political science major at Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University, Leon taught himself to sew at the age of 15, and quickly began making his collection of sophisticated yet sexy dresses and separates for the saucy set…. …inspired by his mother, who he says is, “…Always well put together and doesn’t follow the trends,” Leon describes the Ellie Owen women as someone dynamic, multifaceted, and fresh… Leon’s just getting started, but he says, “Upon graduation this year I intend to move to New York to expand my line. My goal is to show in Mercedes Benz fashion week in New York and sell my clothes in retailers’ world wide.” His dream also includes diffusion lines, fragrances, and bags. We’ll keep an eye out! Seems Aubrey is a fan!
Contact Leon and see more of his fabulous creations at www.myspace.com/ldc86 .

Hey!
This week has been pretty nuts (in the most fabulous way)!
But even with all the madness, I still take time to bring you trend lovers some fashion goodness! Today, I wanted to spotlight designer Melody Ehsani:
A Los Angeles native of Persian descent, her eye catching shoes, earrrings, and rings have been seen on several urban fabulous celebs including Rihanna… Alicia Keys… …Kelis… …Erykah Badu… …and Nas… Originally in law school, Melody followed her heart, leaving her corporate courses to take classes at the Art Center College of Design… She hit the ground designing tour merchandise for Prince, and hasn’t stop running ever since, creating jewelry and accessories for videos, red carpet events, and photo shoots. More than just jewelry, Ehsani designs shoes as well… Hot!
Her designs are surprisingly affordable, with earrings starting at $48 (for Kelis’ earrings), rings starting at $25, and those lovely shoes averaging about $120 a pop. Not bad!
For more info and to purchase, visit her online store at www.melodyehsani.com or at myspace at www.myspace.com/joonlife.

Hey!
So today I wanted to put you onto a hot collection called Boxing Kitten…
Created by Maya Lake (pictured above), the line is inspired by Josephine Baker, W.E.B. Du Bois, and Marion Lake, and is rooted in the political and cultural elements that women faced during the Civil Rights movement… Maya says, “If you take the patterns and very feminine silhouettes of women from the Civil Rights and then put those dresses in African inspired prints and fabric, then you have the Boxing Kitten aesthetic...” Each garment is comprised of bold and fearless print combinations, and cut in charming and demure silhouettes. Unique and pretty, Maya calls Boxing Kitten “ethnic rockability.” A graduate of Wesleyan University, Maya began designing clothing at the age of 10 with the help of her mother, and by 15 she was sewing clothing for family and friends. The demand for her clothing steadily increased and she soon began to think about sharing her art with a larger base. After a few years, Alife, Prohibit and Patricia Fields began selling her clothes, and stars like Me’shell Ndgeocello, Erykah Badu, Cristina Milian, DJ Rashida and Jack of J*Davey became customers and fans… If you want to know more about the line, visit Boxing Kitten at www.myspace.com/boxingkitten. I need to have one of those dresses!

This weekend, I also stopped into the Uptown Emerging Designers Market hosted by my friends Michelle and Enyinne… As soon as I stepped into the Hip Hop Cultural Center, I was delighted to see tons of indie designers, including Burden Clothing, Cut it out Apparel, Harriet’s Alter Ego, and of course Seasoned to Perfection. While there were many many options, I only stopped and chit chatted with a few. One who caught my eye was D. Brown… …she makes jazzy custom made t-shirts, emblazoned with her initials… …along with custom made men’s jeans and accessories (I liked her sequined berets!). Check her out at www.myspace.com/dbrownfashion. Another designer to look out for: Nkrumah Jennings, designer of the jewelry line Anu… …I knew I was just there to look around, but I couldn’t help but shop at his table! I picked up a pair of cute gold earrings and a bold necklace (he actually shortened the necklace for me as I stood there). He’s on myspace as well at www.myspace.com/anurockmetal. All in all it was a great event! I saw a few Fashion Bombers in the house…thanks for rolling out! Make sure to keep your eyes peeled for the next Uptown Emerging Designers Market in July!
Hi!
So as promised, I’ll give you the best of what I saw at Brooklyn Fashion Weekend! Several designers showed, but I only saw a handful…out of those only two caught my eye.
First designer that you should know is Joan Vaccianna (www.vaccianna.com), who says on her website that, “lights from hard core steel buildings [and] the pulse of trains underground,” inspired this contemporary collection tailored for the young woman with edge.
The collection featured sheer knits and ruffled satin tops worn with pencil skirts…
Evening and cocktail dresses fashioned out of everything from skin clinging leather to more forgiving chiffon and satin… ..and sultry frocks with short hemlines and tailored bodices. The final walk…
…not quite avant garde, but very promising. And her work with leather is in fact different–I look forward to seeing more! Keep posted on Vaccianna by going to www.vaccianna.com or its Myspace page, www.myspace.com/dezinez4u.
I also enjoyed designer’s Miss Bruno’s presentation (www.missbruno.com). The collection consisted exclusively of overwhelming, eye catching scarves, perfect for spring weather.
The ample fabric allows one to pull the scarf over the head to fashion a hood… …colors like coral and cream pop against more demure backdrops. And boys…don’t sleep! This works for you as well… I caught the final walk:
Fun!
It’s always great to discover new talent; and an event like Brooklyn Fashion Weekend allows us to see the next big thing. Next stop, the Tents of Bryant Park!
Smootches!
Fashion, News, and What Nots
*Miss Bruno’s designs are available on their website! A few of my favorites: Top Row: Peze Cafe, $50; Delancey Blues, $110.
