• Best of 2013: Most Improved Fashionista

We’re kicking off our Best of 2013 superlatives with our Most Improved Fashionista, taking a look at the lady whose style has taken a turn for the best over the course of this year:

    Check out this year’s noms!

    1. Rita Ora

Rita Ora really gained some time in the spotlight this year, garnering DKNY and Material Girl campaigns, as well as a coveted role in the upcoming Fifty Shades of Grey film.

Rita Ora is a Material Girl

Dressed by stylists Jason Rembert and Kyle Devolle, Rita turned our heads this year in Vivienne Westwood, Tom Ford, Marchesa, and a host of other high-fashion designers.

You all have given Ms. Ora her props, with Onyx raving, “She looks like an ice princess, the blond hair, the smile, she looks so cute and happy. I like that <3.”

I’ve been here for Rita since day one and her style strides are undeniable. Kudos!

At any rate, review her best looks of the year here.

    2. Nicki Minaj

Nicki Minaj has definitely had a whirlwind year, officially becoming the the most-charted female rapper in the history of the Billboard Hot 100, releasing a new fragrance, signing as a new face of MAC, and snagging her own KMart collection.

She’s become a huge Twitter and Instagram sensation, posing on the social mediums in pieces from Moschino, Giuseppe Zanotti, and Chanel.

Off of the internet, she has gravitated toward pieces from her own KMart collection, Gucci, Alexander McQueen, and a host of others.

Though Nicki’s looks aren’t always my cup of tea, I’ve been quite impressed with her style evolution this year.

There’s no doubt that she’s improved from last year.

Next year should be bigger and better for Ms. Minaj! See more of her here.

    3. LaLa Anthony

LaLa Anthony has had quite the stylish year, getting the thumbs of from Vogue and launching her own clothing line, 5th & Mercer.

She’s hooked our interest with a predilection for Balmain, Tom Ford footwear, and cool leather jackets.

She’s also found a home on Instagram, documenting her daily musings in high-fashion garb.

    4. Fantasia

2013 has truly been Fantasia’s comeback year, with a new album and a new Broadway role in After Midnight.

She’s also been racking up style points, catching our eyes in looks that show she’s definitely been doing her fashion research.

Like so many fashionistas this year, Fantasia has also been using Instagram to showcase her ensembles: pumping out her getups to her 500K followers.

    5. Naya Rivera

Naya Rivera is no longer the girl you knew from Glee, showing us all she’s a grown woman this year in curve-hugging silhouettes.

From Michael Kors to Donna Karan, she has kept us all delighted in an array of statement-making frocks.

Naya also shacked up with Big Sean this year and the two were arm in arm at almost every red carpet event. Not bad for some arm candy right?

She’s no less beautiful than she was last year, but she has definitely added a dose of glamour to her looks since 2012.

There’s no denying her red carpet appeal, but is Naya the most improved fashionista?

    6. Adrienne Bailon

This year, Adrienne Bailon snagged a spot on talk show The Real, as well as a starring role in film I’m In Love With A Church Girl.

She took to the mean streets of NYC, LA, and other stylish cities in designs from Cushnie et Ochs, Rebecca Minkoff, and Catherine Malandrino. The leather trend pulled her in, allowing her to showcase her newfound edgy style and curves.

You all approve of the change, with Honeybrown stating, “Adrienne has been looking good lately!!! Her looks used to feel forced and contrived. As of late she’s been bringing it!!!”

True indeed! Adrienne has always been beautiful though…check out a look below from last year. Her new bob has made it all feel more modern and new right?

If you’re in need of more Ms. Bailon, check out the rest of her ensembles here.

    7. Alicia Keys

Last, but not least is Mrs. Alicia Keys, who spent this year as Blackberry’s new Global Creative Director. She also was the executive producer of the film, The Inevitable Defeat of Mister and Pete.

Alicia was a fixture on the red carpet this year. She made her presence felt everywhere from Sydney to her hometown of NYC in fabulous gowns.

Mrs. Keys became quite the fan of Cushnie et Ochs and Stella McCartney. Could you blame her? The brands’ form-fitting silhouettes gave her the chance to flaunt her toned figure.

I’m here for Alicia’s style evolution and I hope she continues in the same vein in 2014.

Check out one of her looks from 2012.
