Beauty Bomb: Sam Fine’s 10 Summer Makeup Bag Essentials

It’s been a little while since we’ve had a beauty post, but when we do beauty, we do it big!
I had the pleasure of meeting celebrity makeup artist Sam Fine down in New Orleans during Essence Music Festival, and knew I had to ask him a few questions about keeping it cute in the summertime!

Of course he was gracious as all get out, and decided to share 10 essentials all you Bombshells should have in your makeup bags this summer:

1. SKll Facial Treatment Mask

Sam says, “Start the day with one of my favorite hydrating skin treatments, SKll Facial Treatment Mask! I love placing these individually wrapped masks in the refrigerator for a cold, refreshing treatment that replenishes dehydrated skin!”

2. Foundation

It all begins with foundation! However, Sam says, “Summertime calls for lighter application! Choosing formulas that dry down to a powdery finish like Covergirl’s TruBlend Liquid Makeup provide a second – skin effect.” He advises that to apply, use a synthetic foundation brush. Start by applying the foundation in the center of the face – where tones are often more varied – fanning it towards the outer perimeter of the face, which is usually more consistent in color and texture and doesn’t require as much coverage.

3. Powder
mac blot powder
Any blot powder will do! Use a large powder brush to apply a dusting of loose powder along the t-zone (i.e. center of face which is most porous). Fine offers, “ [This method is] always better than applying pressed powder with a puff! It gently sets makeup and leaves skin looking semi-matte.”

4. Blotting Tissues and Primer

Primer is like deodorant for the face,” Fine says, “so this is a great product to use alone or under foundation to help control oil and perspiration.” Blotting tissues should also be a part of your arsenal, as they help to absorb oil and perspiration (and are a great alternative to powder).

5. Bronzer

“Applying one of my favorite bronzers – Queen Collection Natural Hue Bronzer – provides a subtle glow and bakes in beautifully throughout the day,” says Fine.

6. Mascara/False Lashes

You know you have to make your eyes pop! Fine offers, “Applying a few coats of waterproof mascara brings effortless attention to eyes! Fine tip: Wipe the mascara brush and apply a thin coat, then go onto something else – get dressed, finish styling your hair – then return to apply a second coat of mascara and watch lashes multiply!” Also, strip or individual lashes give you an instantly glamorous aura. I swear by them.

7. Liquid Liner

“I know, liquid liner transfers and smudges in the summer heat, however, Bombshell Intensity Liner by Blashblast makes it easy to make the most precise line and is virtually smudge-proof!” Fine says.
8. Blush

We all need that summery glow. Sam says, “Although there are tons of multi-purpose sticks that add shine, sheen and glow… they’re also crème – based and will make you appear oily in the summer heat. So, choose a few bright shades – orange, pink, coral – in a powder formula.”

9. Lipstick

Go bold or go home!” Summer is the perfect season to wear eye-catching shades of red, orange & fuchsia!” Sam says, “Try one of my favorite lipshades from the Covergirl Queen Collection for moisturizing, rich, true color.”

10.Lipgloss

“Whether layered over your favorite lipstick or worn alone, Covergirl’s Colorlicious Lipgloss drips with shine and color and should be in every girl’s purse this summer! “says Fine. I can totally cosign the lipgloss. They’re the bomb!
