Fashion and art collided last night at ‘New Art City’, an exhibition presented by DKNY that showcased NYC’s finest young artists.
The one-night art show at The Safari Gallery in Soho was curated by real-life couple, DKNY models and photographers Carlos Santollala and John Tuite- also known as RAAT City, or even ‘Jarlos‘ to their Instagram followers- and included 20 emerging and established artists.
‘New Art City’ featured work by known names like A$AP Ferg, Jeanette Hayes, Sandy Kim, Chloe Wise, Cole Mohr and other trendsetters. Through photographs, paintings, and installations, artists attempted to reveal the real New York.
The show was part of DKNY’s #wearenyc fall/winter campaign. “The New York downtown art scene has always reflected the heartbeat of the city,” Donna Karan says. “It’s where young artists can push the envelope, experiment, and embrace new media.”
Word is that the only real presence DKNY had was the logos on tees and retro pieces worn by the beautiful people that attended the exhibit. Still, pretty clever marketing.
Abstract art aside, I actually love that such a huge fashion house like DKNY collaborated with a young team of artists to put together a show for the very audience that rocks their gear! What are your thoughts on art shows brought to you by big fashion names?
