The Fashion Bomb News Breakdown: The Guardian Questions British Vogue’s Lack of Black Cover Girls, Taylor Swift Has A Keds Collaboration, and Sarah Jessica Parker To Release Handbag And Shoe Collection At Nordstrom
In a recent issue of The Guardian, writer Tasny Hoskins questions why British Vogue hasn’t had a single cover black model since Naomi Campbell covered the book back in 2002. Offering names like Malaika Firth and Jourdan Dunn as worthy Covergirls, Hoskins bats away arguments that black covers don’t sell. Jody Furlong, founder of The Eye Casting, is quoted in the article saying, “There hasn’t been one for twelve years! You can’t say people don’t buy it when they’re not given the chance to buy it.” Vogue UK EIC Alexandra Shulman responded saying “We have put Beyoncé and Rihanna on the cover of Vogue and at least half our covers do not feature models. We love Jourdan Dunn and she was the cover star of the last Miss Vogue which previously had featured Cara Delevingne.” And while the statement actually isn’t true — since 2002, 95 covers have featured models while 58 have featured celebrities, which isn’t half — maybe this means Dunn is set for a cover, as her bestie Cara has already managed to nab three. Model Kate Moss has taken her love for herself and champagne to new heights by having a glass modeled after her form. The 40-year-old model had her chest made into a mold, which was then transformed into champagne flutes, finished with her signature. The glasses will be used to serve champagne at the 34 restaurant in London (it’s rumored that Marie Antoinette did the same). “I was excited to participate in this project — what an honor to be alongside Marie Antoinette — she was a very intriguing and mischievous character,” Moss said. “Champagne is always associated with celebration and happy occasions and I had fun creating this beautiful coupe.” (Telegraph)
After releasing a new single and video, Taylor Swift has announced a new project: a collaboration with Keds. Having fronted the brand for quite a while, the “Sneaky Cat” titled collaboration will feature cats and a slight ode to her new album 1989. Set to drop at the same time as the album in October, the shoes are black and feature gold detailing. (Teen Vogue)
Sarah Jessica Parker, the designer, is back with her second shoe and handbag collection out exclusively at Nordstrom this month. With a Mary Jane, a T-strap style called “The Carrie” and even an over the knee boot, the collection comes fall ready and starts rolling out in stores and online this month. Bags remain under $500 and stay within the same muted, fall tones the shoes are available in. (Fashionista)
Unless you have a job in the fashion industry or are well connected, it’s not exactly the easiest thing to get involved in New York Fashion Week. Well this season Adidas Neo is allowing you to voice your opinion about how they should stage their fashion show with a social media campaign led by Selena Gomez. Gomez will host the show but will also be fielding advice for the production of the show on Twitter. Will you get involved? (YouTube)
