It’s all about partying for Marc Jacobs’s Resort 2015 lineup which is almost solely dedicated to féte-ready wares. Loads of leg covered by sexy sheer black tights, lace wherever possible, sparkling sequins, red and black velvet, colorful python boots — a smart move on part of the brand as the season’s collections will start rolling into stores before Holiday gets into full swing. We all know Jacobs loves to dress up and this assortment played to that penchant with vibrant jewel tones and an overall jubilant air.
Jacobs has a thing for the 60′s (his Fall 2014 show was a clear demonstration of that fact) and there was something altogether Mod about the Resort assortment with mini silhouettes, swing coats, bracelet sleeves, and bow detailing for added femininity.
I’m all about trousers (especially during transitional seasons), thus I gravitated toward the pant selections offered — though they were few and far between. A yellow, black, and white floral blazer and skinny trouser look was a spirited spin on the classic suit, while a pair of black perforated sequin pants made quite the poignant statement when paired with a white fur jacket, adorned with an oversized bow.
Fashion doesn’t always need to be functional, but the lack of everyday wear here might prove difficult in the retail arena for Jacobs. Resort has always been steeped in wearability for me, but there isn’t much of that shining through in this collection. On the other hand, the brand will surely alter some of what we’re seeing for its luxury-loving consumers and we can also count on fans of the brand including Katy Perry, Lily Aldridge, and Miley Cyrus who will surely sport a slew of offerings on the red carpet this year. Celeb wear does boost sales in a number of instances, so that might give the brand a lift.
