There are a few months left in DKNY’s year-long 25th anniversary celebration and the brand plans to milk every second that’s left. The next achievement on the road of this groundbreaking year is the Resort 2015 collection, capturing the youthful exuberance that DKNY has become known over the past two decades. The color palette is pared-down, but the embellishments and accents are not with sequins, fringe, feathers, and so much more giving rise to the assortment’s sporty chic designs.
The opening look is urban and tenacious like NYC, but simultaneously feminine and fancy — speaking to the brand’s spirit. A black New York Yankee fitted cap starts off the ensemble that consists of a fur-trim bomber jacket thrown over the model’s shoulders, a leather biker jacket and white collared shirt underneath, a feather-trim skirt for ultimate sashaying, and a pair of platform sneakers boasting the number “89”: DKNY’s year of birth. That balance continues with a white shaggy fur coat, menswear-inspired trousers, a fringed leather worn over a wispy LBD, and a sheer-sleeve sequin topper paired with an A-line skirt.
An athletic-inspired collection isn’t complete without mesh, thus that is served on crop tops, high-waist skirts, and flirty little black dresses.
Lace lends an air of delicacy to the collection on fur-accented mini dresses, contrast-sleeve sweatshirts, sheer blouses, and open jackets. The girly fabric is given a tougher edge when paired with cropped pants, oversized jackets, and platform, creeper-inspired shoes.
Outerwear has some time to shine with expertly-tailored blazers and single-breasted coats in rosy pink and fiery red throughout the offerings.
I’m a separates devotee, thus I am most intrigued by the collection’s vast array of skirt choices. From a silver metallic pleated tiered style to a pink feather design, these pieces will surely give your wardrobe the kick it needs during those transitional months.
Overall, the collection is functional, yet whimsical and I cannot wait to see how the brand’s fans including Rita Ora and Rihanna wear these pieces in the coming months.
