After reportedly signing on to produce TransAmerica, an eight-episode VH1 documentary series about the transgender community, Tyra Banks has yet another TV announcement: in 2015 she’ll be hosting yet another daytime program. In her typical way, Banks will focus on lifestyle content that incorporates the various things that she has been involved with: fashion, beauty, entertainment and entrepreneurship. “I’m excited to be partnering with Disney-ABC to usher in a new era of lifestyle, beauty and entertainment that will inspire women to be the CEO of their lives via honesty, humor and the newest tips and tricks without being intimidating or precious,” she said. After much speculation, it has been announced that Lupita Nyong’o will be a part of the Star Wars: Episode VII cast! Directed by J.J. Abrams, the movie will hit screens on December 18th 2015 with Lupita alongside the likes of Harrison Ford, Adam Driver, and Gwendoline Christie. Am I the only one excited to see the sort of looks they pull for her? It’ll be a major step up from her 12 Years a Slave wardrobe. (Star Wars)
Since that large influx of cash from LVMH a while back, Nicholas Kirkwood has been ramping up on his business. Including a slew of new hires and streamlining his business he’s been thinking about the future. “Bags will be the next thing I will work on, and [I can envision] sunglasses, small leather goods and jewelryeven,” he said. “I love the exactness of jewelry, the precise measurements. On the heels of Thomas Tait winning this year’s LVMH Prize, the Dorchester Collection has suspended their fashion prize. An official spokesperson for the company said that the award was canceled “due to other newly created similar awards,” but many believe that it is because of the widespread backlash that the Sultan of Brunei is experiencing due to his implementation of the Sharia Law. Just last week, high ranking industry personnel like Anna Wintour have refused to frequent any of the Sultan’s properties because of the law. (WWD)
Tonight is the CFDA Awards, but for Bethann Hardison, the celebration started last night. Essence Magazine hosted everyone from Jay Manuel to Iman, Naomi Campbell, Jennifer Hudson, and June Ambrose to celebrate this year’s CFDA Founder’s Award winner. In addition the party itself, Essence awarded Hardison with their very own Vanguard Award for the work that she continues to do with the Diversity Coalition. (Huffington Post)
