New York April Events: Jeremy Dell’s Beat & Snatched Makeup Class + In Her Shoes Blog’s The Beauties & Brains Behind the Brands Panel
By Claire

So April is gonna be a busy month for me, from speaking on panels to attending conferences!
I’ve signed on to participate in two big events in April. If you’re in New York, check ‘em out:
1. In Her Shoes Blog’s The Beauties & Brains Behind the Brands Panel Discussion, April 6th from 3-6 at Galapagos Art Space (16 Main Street Brooklyn, NY 11201)
in her shoes beauties and brains behind the brands
Renae Bluitt of In Her Shoes Blog has made a career of telling the stories of career oriented women, and is bringing the goodness to real time with a panel discussion including Latham Thomas of Mama Glow, Demetria Lucas of A Belle in Brooklyn & Blood, Sweat, and Heels, Anthony Dickey of Hair Rules, and…me! Aside from the talk, I think it would be a great time to network. I’ll have a photographer present, so show up and show out!

2. Jeremy Dell’s Beat & Snatched Makeup Class, April 13th from 12-5 at Studio 1315 (15 West 28th street between Broadway and 5th)
Beat & Snatched Makeup Class jeremy dell
Jeremy Dell is an in demand Atlanta based makeup artist, credited for crafting the looks of Cynthia Bailey, Toni Braxton, and more. He is my go to guy every time I’m down in Atlanta, and he does absolutely amazing work, like the below.

He’s going to be teaching a makeup class from 12-5 in New York on April 13th, followed by a talk about the The Business of Beauty featuring Ashunta Sheriff, Brandy Gomez-Duplessis, Merrell Hollis, and myself.

It should be fun and informative. And I’m honestly super excited at the prospect of learning to ‘beat my face’ myself. Can’t wait!

You can buy tickets for the makeup class at, and secure your seat for In Her Shoes at
Also, stay tuned for info on our next Cocktails with Claire event. I’m aiming for May, but we shall see!
Until then…Smootches!
*PS I might be able to give away one ticket to each of these. Leave a comment and let me know why you’d want to go. I’ll see what I can do!

My sister Keshia and I would love to go to BOTH events! We are working on building our branding and consulting firm,
    J Presidential Consulting and Branding.

Please please PLEASE consider us when deciding on your possible giveaway.

Thank you! And adore your site/insta/facebook presence!

I would LOVE to go to the Beat & Snatched class. While I love makeup, I really have no clue about how to apply most of it. A class like this could help teach me more about makeup and how to create looks.

  3. Jessica Ruth says:

I’m not a makeup artist, but I’m a makeup enthusiast. I’ve never applied makeup to ANYONE other than myself. I know how to beat my own face, but beating other folks faces is totally different. I would love to learn! Thank you! :-)

  4. Ashley says:

I’m a loyal reader who checks the blog several times a day to get my Fashion Bomb fix! I’d love to attend the Beauties & Brains event. I’m a new New Yorker who just recently moved here to continue pursuing my Advertising career and I’m playing with the idea of starting a new blog to chronicle my [crazy] experiences thus far. I’d love to hear the panel’s advice on creating a successful online brand. Thank you!

  5. Niema V. says:

Hey Claire, I love your blog! I’ll tell you two reasons why I NEED to attend the Beauty & Snatched makeup class:

1)PASSION: I am passionate about beauty and I am interested in becoming a successful makeup artist/beauty blogger/vlogger.

2)MAKEUP EDUCATION: Mimi J’s one-on-one class combined with Jeremy’s advanced demo and the Business of Beauty panelists has me salivating (your flawless photo also sold me!). I am like a dry sponge just waiting to soak every bit of knowledge in.

    With love,
    Niema V. xx

    Hi Claire,
I’ve been following your blog since the earliest and love your posts! They’re positive and bring me a much needed laugh every now and then ;)

I would love to attend any of these events as I’m interested in one day becoming an image consultant and offering mobile consulting services to the NYC metro area (and eventually the world). The makeup event would provide me better ways to help clients make changes on a daily basis and for special events and the business and branding event might help me with developing my own brand as well as helping persons develop their most important brand- themselves.

    Thanks so much for considering!

    Hi Claire,

Both events sound amazing and I would love to attend either.. mostly because between work and school, I haven’t been to a social event, seemingly in eons.

I would love to learn how to build my brand especially as I’m planning to move into consulting in my field. The makeup class… who doesn’t want to learn how to master their beat?

    Thanks a bunch!

    Hi Claire,

I’m flying in from Toronto to meet you, because I see this as an incredible opportunity to thank you in person for all of the value you’ve added to my life (and to the lives of millions of FBD readers, I’m sure.

    1) To me, you’re a first-class example of a successful Black Haitian-American woman. You’re thoughtful, current, graceful under fire (I thought the way you handled Zhukova Chairgate and the Eva Chen/Kerry Washington Lucky Mag debacle was classy and respectful) with an enviable work ethic. You are making me (as a Haitian-Canadian woman) an us Black women very proud! Claire = Game Changer :)

    2) I want to learn from you, soak up more of your Saturnian discipline and wisdom so that in turn, I can add more value to my clients and my blog readers. There is still a lot of work to be done in Canada to increase positive exposure and positive representation of Black people, especially Black women, in the media and pop culture. I believe that hearing more about your work and your experiences will enable me to pay it forward in an incredible way.

    3) This would make for a wicked birthday gift ;)

Thanks for all of the time, effort and love you have put into making FBD as fantastic as it is today!

    Be awesome,

    Hi Claire,

First off you know that I have been a fan of your blog for years now and I always tell you what an inspiration you are. Being a Resident of Cincinnati Ohio I rarely get a chance to participate and enjoy events such as this and would love to have the opportunity to attend. With that being said I will keep it short and sweet on why I should be chosen.

first off I am a mother of two who works 40+ hours a week to feed her family while in the process of starting my own online vintage boutique business. I will look at this opportunity more so to network and build clientele, as well as chance to let my hair down, get fly and have fun. Also I find inspiration in receiving advice from young successful men and women who look like ME!

I will be attending the Beauties and Brains event but this is more of a question. Will you have more posts similar to this one about (networking) events around NYC? This is great! I am sure most of the readers would be interested. Thanks.

    Hi Claire!
I would love to attend the event for April 6, The Beauty & Brains behind the Brand. I am starting a blog that will shed light to designers & entrepreneurs of color and this event would be perfect to feature! Also, as you mentioned, would be a great way to network and build a great following for my new blog! If all else fails at least I get to see you in action! =-D lol!
