The Fashion Bomb News Breakdown: Rachel Roy’s Designer Label Gets The Axe, Another Model Says She Was Sexually Abused by Terry Richardson, and Lorde Teams With M.A.C. Cosmetics
By The Fashion Bomb Staff

• Sad news today for Rachel Roy, whose namesake designer label will no longer be produced. Roy’s parent company, The Jones Group, is currently being sold to Sycamore Partners, and with all the shakeups, Jones has chosen to discontinue Rachel Roy, as they say the brand  doesn’t fit in with their current strategy. Jones will continue to produce Rachel Rachel Roy, the brand’s diffusion label sold exclusively at Macy’s. Rachel Roy’s Fall 2014 collection, which showed just last month in New York will not be made, at least, not by Jones. Rachel Roy said she plans to finance her line herself, although we still don’t have any further details on how she’s going to raise money to keep her brand afloat.  (WWD)

Lily Aldridge Velvet Marks and Spencer

Lily Aldridge is thinking of branching out, according to reports that say the Victoria’s Secret model is looking to launch her own brand. “A beauty line would be super fun, but I know that building my own company would be a lot of work,” she told Vogue UK. There’s so much that I want to do, but I want to slowly start building my own thing.” Aldridge is taking baby steps to reach her goal–Right now, she’s set to release a second capsule collection for Velevet by Marks and Spencer, consisting of easy daywear pieces like loose-fitting button down plaid shirts and swingy tank tops. M.A.C. Lorde

• New Zealand singer Lorde has snagged herself a contract with M.A.C. Cosmetics for a collection due to launch this summer. There are few details as to what the range’s lineup might be, but I wager there will at least be a vampy purple lipstick shade, as that seems to be Lorde’s go-to lippie. Also, it doesn’t hurt that M.A.C.’s face chart for Lorde’s tour makeup looks include–you guessed it: a dark lip. The singer announced the collab on her website, saying she’s been a fan of the Canadian cosmetics company for years: “I have loved MAC Cosmetics since I was a little kid. I remember saving up to buy my very first MAC lipstick [Snob] at 14, and it was used by about 20 of my friends! MAC has a very clear aesthetic, that has always felt fashion forward to me. So I was really excited to work with them on these products, which I use pretty much every day and night. I hope you will too.” Can’t wait to see what she delivers! (The Cut)

Rihanna by Terry Richardson February 2013-014

• Yet another model has come forward saying she experienced sexual abuse at the hands of photographer Terry Richardson. She posted her story to Reddit, recounting a very sketchy tale of what happened when she worked with Richardson as a 19-year-old. Apparently, she’d forged a bit of a career as a nude model, but she says that Richardson took things too far in a photoshoot where he and his assistant coerced her into performing sex acts. With stories like these, it is truly bewildering that Richardson continues to be so wholeheartedly embraced by the fashion industry. Read the chilling account on Jezebel. (Jezebel)

Target Xhiliration Junior's Midkini 2-Piece Swimsuit Photoshop Fail

• The latest in Photoshop Fails comes from Target, whose botched retouching of a teenage model has sparked outrage across the ‘net. To sell their leopard print Xhilaration® Junior’s Midkini 2-Piece Swimsuit, the folks in the graphic department got a little too photoshop happy, thinning model R’el Dade‘s already skinny arms, nipping her waist, and finally, hacking off a chunk of her crotch to create the ultimate thigh gap from hell. Check it out up-close:

Xhiliration Bikini Target Photoshop Fail Closeup

It’s bad enough that the Photoshop job is so terrible, but it’s made even worse by the fact that this is a JUNIORS swimsuit, i.e. the target customer is a teenage girl. None of the other bikini-clad models are the site are so heinously retouched, so… why this picture? And furthermore, how did the people at Target miss such an egregious mistake? (Jezebel)

    Juicy, juicy news this morning!

S/o to Lorde doing her thing at only 17!

  2. marguerite says:

was the Rachel Roy line even lucrative? cuz i can’t see a business turning down money if $ is being made. i’m honestly surprised she has a following. her clothes aren’t that great.

  3. sher sher says:

Rachel Roy’s signature line is WAY over-priced for clothing that is marginally interesting. Her Rachel Rachel Roy line is a better, cuter, more economical bet so I can definitely see Jones discontinuing the line.

  4. Frost says:

I love Rachel Roy!! She has so many cute clothes, but I’m glad they’re at least keeping Rachel Rachel Roy.

I’m not surprised that Terry Richardson is still being embraced and hired. This is the same country where people line up to get autographs from George Zimmerman and people still support R. Kelly. :p

  5. thephillydiva says:

I hope that Rachel Roy’s line keeps going. Even though I agree with Sher Sher, maybe a new designer to aid will help sales, a la what Donatella Versace did with the Verseus line. That sucks to be axed like that with no warning. Maybe Damon or Jay-Z could help with funding…
