The Fashion Bomb News Breakdown: Tom Ford Shoots Numéro Russia Pat Cleveland Cover, Hindu Leaders Want Mara Hoffman ‘Ganesh’ Swimwear Recalled, and Dolce & Gabbana’s New Fragrance

Numero Russia Pat Cleveland Tom Ford
André Leon Talley joins forces with Tom Ford for Numéro Russia’s most recent issue, which contains a 14+ page spread featuring cover models Conrad Bromfield (left) and the legendary Pat Cleveland. The pair wears clothes from Ford’s spring women’s collection, although Bromfield is mostly naked through the entire thing (not that we’re complaining!) Talley, who calls his position at Numéro his “creative playpen,” believes in the message and emotions this shoot conjures up: “There are two people of color on the cover looking provocative and elegant,” he told WWD. “And Pat must be 60 now, proving that fashion is not about age. It crashes through the boundaries of ageism.”  Ford,  on the other hand, who shot the whole thing, says he  was just happy to put together a great editorial: “…I simply cast the two people that I most wanted to work with and who I find beautiful. Pat Cleveland is iconic, yet she is still completely current as a model. Her age is irrelevant because her aura and what she is able to bring to a shoot and project to the camera is ageless and timeless,” he explained. “I photographed Conrad with her in somewhat sexual poses, and the two of them as a couple do not look remotely ridiculous together, despite their age difference. They look absolutely right and completely plausible because Pat is forever young in her mind — and I must say her body as well.”  I’ve gotta agree–Pat and Conrad look great together! Thoughts on the cover? (WWD)

Mara Hoffman Ganesh Swimsuit

• Hindu  leaders are urging Mara Hoffman to recall all swimwear bearing the image of Lord Ganesh, their god of wisdom. Hindu statesman Rajan Zed released a statement, explaining that Ganesh is meant to be respected and worshipped in a state of reverence, not plastered on trendy clothes for over $200 a pop. Zed urges Nordstrom, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdale’s, Neiman Marcus, and Amazon.com to recall any and all Mara Hoffman Ganesh swimwear, out of respect for the millions of practicing Hindus around the world. Miranda Kerr H&M

H&M is opening their first stores in Australia, so it’s only appropriate that they’ve tapped Aussie model Miranda Kerr to front their latest campaign. The ads are meant to showcase “California Cool” style and focus “on the beauty of spring in an urban setting,” according to a spokesperson for the retailer. (Styleite)

Kate King fronts the campaign for Dolce & Gabbana‘s new fragrance, DOLCE. The perfume has flow’ry tones, with notes of White Amaryllis, Neroli leaves, Water Lily, White Daffodil, and Papaya Flower. Cashmeran, Musk, and Sandalwood even out the floral scents. (Fashion Bomb Inbox)

• While some might be eagerly awaiting the gorgeous gowns we’re bound to see at the Oscars Sunday night, others remain thoroughly unimpressed by the fashion year after year. Take Tom Ford for example, who aired his dissatisfaction with the get ups from the annual award ceremony on recent years on The Jimmy Kimmel Show. “It’s a bubble of Fifties Barbie clothes,” he said. “It’s quite different from what real people are really wearing.” True, but isn’t that kind of the point? What do you think? Are you bored of Oscars fashion? (Vogue UK)

So I love seeing Pat Cleveland on the core of anything! Tom Ford makes a good point: it’s pretty fashion but it seems to be the same each time. Mara Hoffman should take down the swimsuit out of respect. It’s cool to be inspired by something so she could have used the colors instead of the actual image.

Pat!!! Love her, so glad to see that she is still doing the damned thing. Love it!

  3. Minnie says:

I would have loved to see the male model’s face at least on the cover w/Pat, he position makes him look like a statue behind her. But overall, I love that they featured two black talented models & I would love to see this kind of cover over here in the states. I only watch certain people for Oscar fashion because I have to agree it has gotten boring. It feels like some designers, editors, ect. don’t have enough diversity around them to check them about how they could be disrespecting people; it’s a true shame.
