Where some designers go for outrageous design and the pomp and circumstance often associated with runway presentations, Tomas Maier opted for functionality and dressing the stylish modern day women who wear his clothes for Bottega Veneta’s Fall 2014 collection. Though low on ornamentation, the lineup was still high in creativity with abstract prints and pops of color.
Maier’s spotlight was placed on the female form, which he accentuated with dresses that clung to the models’s torsos and broke free with pleats and fuller silhouettes at the skirts. The results were rhythmic, emitting fortitude while still being impossibly effortless. Color was inserted in shades of fiery red, chartreuse, and purple.
A cashmere knit and pencil skirt is one of my go-to looks, thus I loved the way Maier worked the combination here. From a grey ombré crewneck paired with a red and black pleated bottom to a purple ribbed-trim topper offset with a graphic print skirt, the pairings were spirited yet functional. Cutout booties were the perfect anchors to the ensembles.
Avid fans of the brand including Zoe Saldana, Katy Perry, and Rosario Dawson will be pulled in by the collection’s array of lavish dresses, boasting leather insets, sultry sheer detailing, sequin embellishment, and lace.
What do you think of Bottega Veneta’s Fall lineup?
