Model To Watch: Riley Montana
By Faith

Milan Fashion Week is in full swing with a slew of models strutting down the catwalks of both new and old designers. I’m always excited for familiar faces like Joan Smalls and Liya Kebede, but I relish in the moments when new models of color make an unexpected appearance. One such model taking the shows by storm this season is Detroit native Riley Montana:

Montana’s entrance into the industry was no subtle one, as she was cast in Givenchy’s Pre-Fall 2014 lookbook: an amazing accomplishment for any model. Tisci clearly fancies her as she went on to pose for the French fashion house’s Spring 2014 ad campaign. The designer is a champion of new models of color: remember he did the same with Joan Smalls and look where that endorsement has taken her. This is a great sign of things to come for Ms. Montana.

High-fashion glossies have embraced her from a snap in Vogue Paris’s “New Faces” editorial to inclusion in a Love Magazine spread in Valentino.

She’s already been spotted on the Fall 2014 runways numerous times, walking the catwalk for Erdem, Anna Sui, Mary Katrantzou, Oscar de la Renta, and countless others.

There’s no doubt that Riley’s star is going to continue to ascend and I cannot wait to see which runways she takes to for the remainder of Milan Fashion Week and the upcoming shows in Paris. Perhaps she’ll land another high-fashion ad campaign this year and a magazine cover.

I’m happy for anyone who can get the heck out of Detroit! Good luck Riley.

Long side eye to anonymous. Anywho, I find it very intriguing that she is from Detroit. And happy that a darker complexioned American black girl is doing high fashion. I feel like we get left off the catwalk and out of the conversation.

    she’s gorgeous.

Faith, honey. Bursted is not acceptable for a writer. The verb burst is an irregular verb, and the past tense remains burst. TSK, TSK

    Love her name. Bravo Riley!
