Evolution is a word intrinsic to Jason Wu’s career and success. With each year comes new endeavors on the part of his brand (both namesake and personal), which leaves no choice but to grow and change. His latest collection for Fall 2014 is a clear indication of that progression: very different even from his autumnal lineup last season. Grounded in a deep color palette with splashes of grey and dark teal for good measure, the designs effortlessly blend Fall-perfect textures with nods to menswear, juxtaposed with an undeniable feminine power and sultriness.
Outerwear is a strong focus from glitter embroidered, round-shoulder coats with modern metal bar closures to fur-sleeve shearlings with edgy zipper detailing. Accessories is a formidable business now for Wu and patent, t-strap pumps anchor many of the looks: adding to the refined vibe pervading through the collection. Fur clutches are also of note, infusing doses of luxury and warmth.
Despite the brand’s predilection for eveningwear, separates are strong here, calling forth functionality. Cozy turtlenecks, draped skirts, cocktail-party ready halter tops (also working well for the office under a blazer), contrast stripe trousers: whether for work or play, the brand has our Fall wardrobe covered.
There’s no denying Wu’s red carpet presence and the designs here are steeped in elegance, perfect for awards shows, movie premieres, and film festivals. A high-neck dress with an embellished bodice and slim-fitting skirt will look killer on Jessica Alba with a sleek chignon and red lips, while the array of cut-out detailed numbers will shine on svelvte figures belonging to Diane Kruger and Zoe Saldana.
Did any look grab your attention from among Jason Wu’s latest?
