Black History Month on Fashion Bomb Daily: Vintage Magazine Covers
By Claire

So it’s Black History Month, and we at Fashion Bomb Daily always do something stylish to commemorate the holiday.
In the past, we’ve delved into the backgrounds of designers, models, icons, trends, and even black history facts. This year, the focus is on vintage magazine covers.

We’re taking in way back to before 2000, and basking in the glory of brown beauties rocking couture and designer frocks on some of our favorite glossies.

Some of these images you’re undoubtedly familiar with. Some might be surprises/learning experiences.

  1. The truth says:

Great idea! Are we including celeb covers as well or just models?

  2. They Tyra cover is in Dutch. So it’s from the Netherlands or Belgium, not Germany.

Great post! Would love to see any Grace Jones maganize cover.

  3. Lola Reggy says:

Yup, so true the Tyra cover is indeed in Dutch, no German cover no. Look at how innocent and young Naomi and Tyra look. My gawd time flies. I remember walking down the streets in the Netherlands, I was a teen. And I saw big posters and billboards with Tyra on them for H&M in bikini. I could not get my eyes of her. And I was like wow really, colored women on billboards here. Wow!! So I started modelling too. Love you all strong black women who paved the way Beijos!!!

  4. justme says:

Yes, Ms. Luna! I did a research paper years ago and couldn’t figure out why it was widely believed that someone else was the first black Vogue cover model.

  5. Elle Byrd says:

That Egyptian eye on Ms. Luna is absolutely everything!
