We’re in the midst of wrapping up our Best of 2013 posts, but it’s the time of year when we single out some fashionistas who made their mark in the past twelve months and will certainly make even bigger statements in 2014. Not all of them are new to the scene, but they’ve certainly made lasting impressions this year.
Here are some of our picks:
1. Kat Graham
Swiss-born actress Kat Graham has been acting since she was thirteen, but she became a household name in 2009 when she burst onto the scene as character Bonnie Bennett on The Vampire Diaries. She really took some fashion risks this year with new shorter hairstyles and a slew of sensual, high-fashion looks.
She hit the Cannes Film Festival, was featured in Glamour’s June issue as one of the next big things, and she launched her singing career.
2014 will undoubtedly bring more music, television and film appearances, some front row sightings, and perhaps a fast-fashion collaboration. Either way, Kat’s quirky sense of style is sure to have more high-fashion brands clamoring to dress her, expanding her sartorial arsenal from the Versace and vintage pieces she gravitated toward in 2013.
We can’t wait to see what she has in store!
2. Sevyn Streeter
Songstress and songwriter Sevyn Streeter captivated us all this year with her debut EP Call Me Crazy, But, as well as her stylish looks at television appearances, fashionable fêtes, and award shows. Sevyn also racked up some songwriting cred by penning hit singles The Way by Ariana Grande and Fine China by Chris Brown. Not bad huh?
With 2014 comes a slew of award shows, new music, and naturally, the chance to sport more and more designer duds.
I’d love to see Sevyn try more looks like the Balmain mini-dress she wore this year and to hopefully sit front row at some shows during Fall 2014 fashion month.
3. Jamie Chung
Jamie Chung has come a long way from her 2004 stint on The Real World: San Diego! The Korean-American beauty hit the red carpet numerous times this year, promoting her hit film The Hangover Part III.
She’s starring in the next Sin City flick which will be released next year. With it will come worldwide premieres, photocalls, and perhaps an editorial spread or two.
Jamie definitely has a bright future in acting and fashion and we cannot wait to see how both of those worlds collide for her in the new year.
4. Angela Simmons
Angela Simmons is hip hop royalty, but she is slowly yet surely rising in the fashion ranks as well.
She was a front row mainstay at New York Fashion Week this year, dazzling in looks that echoed her fashion prowess.
Angela even staged her own Angela I Am runway show for Spring 2014 NYFW, as well as launching her website.
Her stint on 106 & Park gave her a chance to try out the trends for an entirely new audience.
Angela also became an Instagram sensation, taking to the social medium in both designers new and mainstream.
Claire even sat down with Ms. Simmons for her new Cocktails with Claire segment.
We’ll definitely be watching Angela and what looks she’s sporting in 2014!
5. Nicole Scherzinger
Nicole Scherzinger could not be stopped this year! The X-Factor UK judge took to our TV screens each week in the most glamorous of gowns, though also making a statement while off-duty.
The beauty garnered a number of editorial features, being included on the cover of Glamour UK and within the pages of Notion Magazine.
She racked up a few awards and 2013 saw Nicole named as the Harvard Foundation Artist of the Year, the Global Gift Philantropist, the Glamour Awards TV Personality of the Year, and the Cosmopolitan TV Personality of the Year.
Nicole will be working on her second album next year and there are also rumblings of a possible clothing line and a leading role on Broadway.
And there you have it! Our choices for style stars to look out for in 2014. Who is on your radar for next year?
