Best of 2013: Model of The Year
By The Fashion Bomb Staff

When you’re tall, beautiful, and have a contract with one of the top modeling agencies in the world, it’s hard to have a bad year. And misfortune proved to be a challenge for these models, who seemed to be everywhere these past 12 months. Between campaigns, editorials, runway gigs, and a smattering of lucrative side-projects, these six girls definitely made the most of 2013. But which one takes the crown? Take a look at our nominees for Model of The Year:

Jourdan Dunn

4 Jourdan Dunn by Alan Gelati for S Moda November 2013

Is there anyone who doesn’t adore Jourdan Dunn? Her bubbly disposition and undeniable beauty have continued to help her pick up campaigns with DKNY and Rihanna x River Island, as well as appearances in GQAllureVogue Spain, and more.
Her YouTube cooking show Well Dunn with Jourdan Dunn is as hot as ever, with guest appearances from 2Chainz, Chef Roble, Cara Delevingne, and Wale. And the icing on the cake? She was named Model of The Year by Harper’s Bazaar UK magazine.

Joan Smalls

Joan Smalls by Michael Thompson for Elle January 2014 [Full Spread] 1

We’re not yet officially into 2014, and Joan Smalls is already proving to be a force to be reckoned with. She’s starting the year off with covers for Vogue Spain and ELLE‘s January issues.

Her resume for 2013 is equally impressive, including spreads for Another magazine, V magazine, i-D, Harper’s Bazaar Brazil,  as well as Vogue‘s US, Brazil, Paris, Russia, and Korea iterations, an appearance in Prabal Gurung‘s Spring 2013 campaign, and so much more. We expect her to plow full steam ahead into the 2014 with more covers, spreads, and campaigns… although we would love to see Joan delve into the world of product!

Karlie Kloss

At this point, Karlie Kloss has pretty much cemented herself as a staple in the fashion industry, gracing campaigns for Coach, Jean Paul Gaultier, Louis Vuitton, Lacoste, Donna Karan, and more–all this on top of her duties as a Victoria’s Secret Angel.
She’s nabbed editorials in CR Fashionbook, ELLE, Vogue US, Japan, Turkey, Paris, and Spain, V magazine, and more. She even realeasd a capsule collection of extra-long jeans for tall girls with FRAME denim.

Malaika Firth

Prada Casts Black Model in Ad Campaign for the First Time in Almost Two Decades Maiaika Firth

Newcomer Malaika Firth had a fantastic 2013. She burst onto the scene cast in Prada‘s Fall 2013 campaign–the first black woman in almost 20 years to do so. She quickly became one of  fashion’s newest ‘it’ models,  walking for Miu Miu, Valentino, Celine, Stella McCartney, Lanvin, Jean Paul Gaultier, Dolce & Gabbana, Mary Katranztou, Marc Jacobs, Calvin Klein, Proenza Schouler, and many, many more.

She scooped up a cover for a UK Vogue‘s supplement, and will appear in Burberry‘s Spring 2014 ads. She even took a turn down the Victoria’s Secret catwalk. I wager we can expect a lot more from Ms. Firth next year.

Chanel Iman

As she has been for quite some time now, Chanel Iman is resting on her contract coins, and enjoying life as something of a socialite… but that doesn’t mean she’s not still working.
In addition to famously appearing in Beyonce‘s music video for Yoncé (alongside Jourdan Dunn and Joan Smalls,) Iman has enjoyed stints in Vogue, Vanity Fair, and Lucky Magazine, as well as her budding relationship with stylish rapper A$AP Rocky.

Cara Delevingne

Cara Delevingne dominated once again as one of the industry’s favorite faces this year. Her credentials? In addition to landing campaigns for La Perla, Burberry, Saint Laurent, Mulberry, Fendi, DKNY, and more, Delevingne has covered British Vogue, W, Numero Tokyo, and pursued her interests in acting and music.
Delevingne was cast in two films, and has been spied in the recording studio with one of Rihanna‘s producers. The budding supermodel has proven to be a favorite of the industry, and of yours–she received a good amount of nominations from you guys.

There you have it! Which model dominated in 2013?

  1. V says:

Love Joan Smalls but Jourdan Dunn seems like such a cool chick. Her little cooking show is cute and i keep forgetting the woman is a mother, bounced back with fierce quickness and still on top

  2. Imani says:

I think we all know 2013 belonged to Joan Smalls. Hands down.

  3. DeeFresh says:

I’m torn between Joan and Cara

  4. Natasha says:

Voted Chanel. Jordan seemed over-exposed this year and while I can appreciate Cara’s business sense, I don’t think she was tops runway-wise.

  5. Biyonsay says:

JOAN has been everywhere this year.

  6. Joel says:

US ELLE cover people!!! Definitely Joan’s year!

  7. Islandista says:

Ooooohhh so torn between two of my favourite island gals! Joan was definitely killing runway and editorial this year but I feel like Jourdan did nearly as well while having more mainstream exposure as a personality. And it’s when you build up fame outside of the fashion world that you’re really on your way to super status.

So my vote went to Jourdan but just marginally! Happy to see island flavor in the fashion world either way!

  8. Dédé says:

    Joann Small
    Jourdan Dunn
    Malaika Firth
    Chanel Iman
    Exit others…

  9. Iheartkeya says:

Cara was literally everywhere this year so it’s fair to call her model of the year. I’ve seen Karlie a lot this year too. But I love Joan personally.

  10. Anna says:

Cara is the model of the year.
