The Fashion Bomb News Breakdown: Kanye’s Creative Director Virgil Abloh Launches New Clothing Line, Beyoncé Releases Another Fragrance, and Havaianas Teams With Valentino On Capsule Range
By The Fashion Bomb Staff

Kanye West‘s creative director Virgil Abloh has dipped his hand in many creative pursuits over the years. He helps conceptualize Yeezy’s tour merch, released Pyrex Vision (which was scooped up by trendy retailers like Colette and VFILES,) a limited edition range of t-shirts, and collaborates on graphics with Hood by Air. Now, Abloh is venturing out on his own to launch his own menswear label, Off-White, which will have some of the same haute streetwear sensibilites his Pyrex Vision line embodies. “Streetwear has a one-trick-ponyness to it,” Abloh told “I want to give my point of view and merge street sensibilities in a proper fashion context. I think that if I can merge the two, it’ll make something interesting.” The result is graphic hoodies in A-line silhouettes, unbleached canvas trousers and shorts, and… espadrilles, which Abloh finds “more interesting” than sneakers. “No one in the hood is wearing espadrilles.” Indeed! A graphic motif of parallel lines ties the range together. The line sounds so promising, Colette has already placed orders for the Spring collection–and they haven’t even seen it yet. has a look at the full collection, and I gotta say, it’s pretty dope… there are even some pieces I think several ladies might want to pluck up for themselves. Check it out!(

Alexander McQueen spring 2014 1

Alexander McQueen is adding a new clutch shape–the first since the ubiquitous knuckle box clutch they debuted in 2009. Introducing the tassel skull clutch, a petite piece bearing the label’s signature skull closure and two black tassels on either side. The collection includes several embellished iterations, and will (naturally) cost you a pretty penny–$1,995. The new bags make their debut online and in McQueen boutiques this February. (ELLE)

• Prepare to have more Yoncé all on your neck like perfume, with her newest fragrance, Beyoncé Rise. The scent is said to be inspired by Maya Angelou’s “Still I Rise” poem, female empowerment, and “overcoming adversity and rising above it all.” According to WWD, the singer’s collective fragrances are the bestselling lot for a celebrity, so there’s no reason why this offering shouldn’t be a success as well. Beyoncé Rise is less fruity than her other scents, boasting notes of autumn woods, jasmine, and Italian bergamot. If you’re planning to get your hands on this one, $19.99 will get you 1-oz. version, $39 a 1.7-oz. bottle, for $49 you can get 3.4-oz. version. The body lotion goes for $24 and $59, while the shower gel will set you back $22. (WWD)

Havaianas are getting a high-end makeover, partnering with Valentino on a limited edition collection of flip-flops for Spring 2014. The range will offer styles for men (like a hunter green pair flourised with a croco-embossed strap) and women (including a camo print option with a neon strap embellished with the label’s famous Rockstuds.) Look out for them January 15th, priced at $295. Would you pay that much for a pair of flip-flops? (Daily Mail)

Vogue has once again broken its health initiative by featuring 15-year-old model Julie Borawska in Vogue Mexico’s November issue. Back in June 2012, the Condé Nast title rolled out a list of reforms to promote a more positive image in their magazines, one of which was to stop using models under the age of 16. Including this latest incident, Vogue has since reneged on this pledge 3 times, casting 15-year-old Ondria Hardin in a spread of Vogue China’s August 2012 issue, and again when 15-year-old Sara Kees appeared in Vogue Italia’s September issue. According to Vogue Mexico editor-in-chief Kelly Talamas, the spread in question was purchased from photographer Kevin Sinclair, absolving them of any responsibility as far as casting. Sinclair maintains he had no idea Borawska was so young when he shot her: “I am aware of the age restrictions with Condé Nast. I was not aware the model was 15 years of age. When we communicated with her agency in Poland they never mentioned that she was so young. We were all under the impression that she was 18 years or older, not 15.” Minimal digging on Sinclair’s part would have probably given him this information. Borawska’s age is  prominently displayed on the website of her agency, her Instagram, and on her Fashion Model Directory profile.  (Fashionista)

  1. MAC says:

$300 for Havaianas when the print on the sole will eventually rub off? Stop it Valentino. I love your brand but this was a waste of a collaboration. Psh, you could have kept it. The print is pretty though. Looks like I will be heading to Old Navy and Michael’s to pick up some 2/ $5 flippies and an assortment of green paint to make my own.
