Next up is our most talked about feature: Fashionista of the Year.
2013 saw an array of fashionable starlets gracing the red carpet and appearances in beautiful gowns, printed ensembles, sultry silhouettes, and more functional getups. From one of the world’s most gorgeous Brit actresses to our favorite Bajan songstress, let’s take a look at who’s up for the crown this year.
One of our 5 Fashionistas To Look Out For in 2013 has blossomed from one to watch to a total red carpet trendsetter.
Naomie has garnered praise this year for her role as Winnie Madizikela in Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom, as well as the ease with which she has worn high-fashion designs. Whether in a feminine Marchesa number or a sizzling Calvin Klein Collection cutout frock, Ms. Harris truly stands out from the crowd with her svelte figure and flawless skin.
We aren’t the only ones in awe of Naomie, as she’s posed for Esquire UK and the cover of ELLE in 2013.
No matter where she goes, she shines. A few of her stand out looks this year: Her Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom blue Vionnet gown, the printed Gucci look she donned to the Harper’s Bazaar Women of the Year Awards, her 2013 BAFTA Los Angeles Jaguar Britannia Awards Vivienne Westwood frock, the Marchesa number she sported at the 2013 Toronto International Film Festival, her electric blue Donna Karan Met Ball piece, and of course the metallic Calvin Klein gown she wore to the 66th Annual Cannes Film Festival.
We can only dream of what else she turns out for 2014 awards season.
Naomie isn’t showing any signs of slowing down either! See her highlights from this year here.
Rihanna is always in the running for Fashionista of the Year, though she has lost to Solange two years in a row. Rih’s laidback vibe from 2012 definitely continued in 2013, with loads of casual looks and naturally…a slew of hair changes.
We surely were enamored with her figure-bearing Gaultier looks and array of high-fashion footwear, but what Rih does best is surprise us. This year, she’s equally worn as many red carpet numbers as she has Jordans and Timberland boots.
Sometimes, her ensembles were too pared-down for our liking…
And then miraculously, Rih was back to her old glam tricks that left tongues wagging.
Her beauty carries her far, allowing her to do sweats and vixen interchangeably, with little to no effort.
2013 was also a year of collaboration for Rihanna, with her Styled to Rock show premiering stateside on Bravo and her last capsule collections for River Island.
Her unapologetic (see what I did there) personality is why we love Ms. Fenty.
Her toned figure, fun-loving attitude, and ever-changing beauty looks keep us all on our toes. Rih continues to be a risk taker, which is exactly what fashion is all about isn’t it?

With a hit accessories line under her belt and her very own AOL Online Series titled Candidly Nicole, Nicole Richie’s star is shining brighter by the minute.
Confidence is always her best accessory, not to mention an amazing knowledge of fashion both past and present.
With beauty and a warm spirit to boot, her stylish looks are just one of the things we love about Mrs. Richie.

If you know anything about Kerry Washington, it’s that the woman emits grace and poise with each step.
It’s a rare day when Kerry is pictured looking anything less than perfect. Her role as stylish fixer Olivia Pope has all eyes on her and she does not intend to disappoint.
Kerry isn’t new to the acting game, but she’s rather new to the fashion ranks. She didn’t miss a beat this year and the surprises were few and far between, with her sticking to refined and supremely feminine frocks vs. trendy or gaudy ensembles.
There’s something that’s so charming about Kerry’s style. With high-fashion designers clamoring to dress her, more Louboutins than anyone can count, a baby on the way, and an adorable and talented husband, she’s a pretty lucky woman no?
Take a look at Kerry’s year here.
The world has a newfound love affair with actress Lupita Nyong’o. She only stepped on the scene three months ago, but she’s made a lasting impression in this short time.
She amazes us at every stop in high-fashion pieces from custom Prada to Antonio Berardi.
With a close-cut ‘do and glowing skin, Ms. Nyong’o is fabulous. Voluminous gowns work on her slender frame, as do mini skirts, retro-inspired blouses, figure-skimming dresses, and modest pumps.
It doesn’t get better than her, does it?

Soon to be Mrs. Body Party aka Ciara has definitely made her presence felt in the fashion industry this year.
The songstress has slayed us with her unexpected, yet high-fashion ensembles, effortlessly blending prints, textures, and varying silhouettes that show us she can look fabulous in almost anything.
Naturally, several other outlets have been tempted by CiCi’s effortless sensuality. GQ snapped some sultry pics of her, as did Paper Magazine, Fader, and Annex Magazine.
Ciara beams on every occasion. A few of her head-turning ensembles this year: the perforated J.Mendel piece she wore to the 2013 American Music Awards, the optic white Calvin Klein jumpsuit she donned to the 2013 Fashion Fund Finalists Celebration, her numerous Pucci moments, the Dorian van Overeem fuzzy sweater and Topshop vinyl pencil skirt she rocked on Instagram, and her slew of figure-clinging Givenchy numbers.
Perhaps we’ll see a high-fashion campaign or collaboration for CiCi in 2014? I’d totally be here for it.

2011 and 2012 Fashionista of the Year Winner Solange Knowles evolved yet again this year, taking on a role as Art Director and Creative Consultant at Puma, as well as launching her very own Saint Heron record label.
She’s a veritable print master and has been impossible to miss in brightly-hued patterned looks from both mainstream and new, cutting-edge designers.
From the street to the red carpet, every look Solange rocked this year was authentically her, always standing out from the crowd and giving us fellow fashionistas all the life we needed.
Magazines couldn’t help but snap the stylish star. Among those she was featured in this year were Net-A-Porter’s The Edit, Brooklyn Magazine, InStyle, Complex, and countless others.
Solange knows what works best for her and wears each ensemble with complete confidence and unmatched beauty to boot. What’s not to love?

With a high-power judging gig on The X-Factor, a new album released this summer, and a new fiancé, Kelly Rowland has had a pretty fantastic year.
Kelly’s megawatt smile pulls us in every time, though her toned figure and radiant skin are just as captivating.
Essence took notice, placing Ms. Rowland on the cover of their September 2013 issue.
With a wedding and a possible return to The X-Factor next year, we’ll definitely have our eyes on Kelly.
See a selection of her getups here.
