Rock-n-roll and sex appeal are inherent to Versace’s DNA, but Donatella Versace seeks to soften that edge with the brand’s latest collection for Pre-Fall 2014. Soft pastel hues and roomier silhouettes put a functional and flirty spin on the fashion house’s iconic curve-clinging dresses and eye-popping prints.
The collection kicks off with a bubblegum pink fur coat, layered over a simple yet chic white blouse and black mini skirt. Accessories toughen up the look with Versace’s signature Medusa-buckle belt and studded pumps. The fur only gets brighter from there with chubby bombers in purple and kelly green thrown over silky, cocktail dresses.
Leather automatically makes any ensemble rocker chic, but here it also gives way to some of the most wearable looks in the offerings. Zipper-detailed leather pants are turned into everyday wear with a white, button-front blouse with crystal collar tips, while a leather studded-sleeve blazer adds some polish to a simple LBD and patent leather pumps.
A retro-inspired feel is injected to the clothing with roomy coats and high-waist flare skirts. Naturally, Versace gives the pieces a modern spin in the aforementioned leather and with pops of the brand’s graphic prints.
Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Nicki Minaj, and a whole host of other stylish ladies have opted for the brand’s wares this year and there are enough slinky dresses to go around for Pre-Fall. A leopard and graphic print mini dress is right up Ms. Minaj’s alley and a slinky cutout LBD will work perfectly for any Hollywood starlet at a movie premiere or fashionable soirée during awards season.
What do you think of Versace’s latest?
