Though the aisles of Duane Reade and Rite Aid have some gems, I’ve gravitated toward niche beauty products within the last couple of years. This was due to my need for more than what drugstore shelves were offering in terms of my colored natural hair and combination skin that never quite seemed to match the BB cream or foundation being presented to me in these venues. As a result, I flocked to Sephora to get a broader range of products that I hoped would address my needs, though even there, I still felt something was missing. Thus, imagine my surprise when I learned of Doobop, a new online retailer specifically curating products for women of color:
Jodie Patterson and Benjamin Burnett are the brains behind the brand: the former owns her own line of natural beauty products named Georgia by Jodie Patterson, while the latter honed his skills at famed brands Kiehl’s and Giorgio Armani Beauty. The site aims to make brands from all over the world accessible to multicultural women with just a few swipes of our track pad.
I took the site’s survey in order to get an online beauty consultation of products that would address all my beauty needs. Though Doobop didn’t serve up any makeup products, I was given three choices in both Hair and Skin Care, with each retailing at $58 or less. The brands selected ranged from Sachajuan (a Swedish company) to Ahava (an Israeli cosmetics company) and I can honestly say I haven’t heard of either! I definitely plan to try some of these products out in the new year.
I’m so excited about this as I’m slowly, but surely becoming a beauty junkie! Also, check out Lauren Williams’s post here for some must-try products from the site.
What do you think? Will you be shopping on Doobop?
