Alexander Wang completely eschewed the 90′s aesthetic and bold logos of his Spring 2014 lineup, giving way to something much more serious and calculated for Pre-Fall 2014. Menswear-inspired designs dominate the collection, with a slew of “It” accessories to boot, quite literally.
Wang kicks off the looks with suiting and brogues: demonstrating that borrowing from the boys is high atop the agenda for the season. Funnel neck zip collars peek through when paired with v-neck sweaters for a tailored, yet architectural approach, while trousers prevail in a number of other ensembles with wide legs and withered away knees. The pants are often juxtaposed with pieces like button-front blouses or structured leather jackets that could work for either sex, though one eggplant-hued blouse with a fringe-detailed back is among the collection’s most feminine designs.
The brand is a favorite of the leggy model set, thus it’s no surprise that gam-baring mini skirts and shorts are prevalent here. When paired with the season’s over-the-knee leather boots, matches made in sartorial heaven are formed.
A month doesn’t pass when some Hollywood starlet like Zoe Kravitz or Khloe Kardashian is spotted in Wang’s designs. Pre-Fall isn’t crammed with as many red carpet and soirée-ready designs as seasons past, but I can definitely see the globe’s high-fashion clad ladies falling in love with a long-sleeve textured grid dress and a fringe-back frock that will give some fierce over-the-shoulder shots for the paparazzi.
What do you think of A. Wang’s latest?
