• The Fashion Bomb News Breakdown: A First Look At The M.I.A. x Versus Versace Collection, Madonna Opens Up to Harper’s Bazaar, and Kate Moss Set to Return To Topshop

    • After months of rumors hinting at a possible M.I.A. x Versace collaboration, we finally have confirmation that it’s going down- and it looks interesting. In a statement to WWD, Donatella Versace revealed, “I adore the energy of the street, so when M.I.A. proposed to expose the issue of counterfeit Versace pieces by creating a collaboration inspired by these items, I thought it was an incredible idea. The collection represents all that I love of the new Versus Versace: it’s fast, it’s noisy, it’s brazen and it blends the world of music with that of fashion. I can’t wait to see it worn.” So what exactly do they have in store? Expect to see 19 pieces, for both men and women, consisting of T-shirts, outerwear, dresses, and printed jeans, all inspired by fake Versace items found in London. Vogue UK was able to snag the first images lensed by Jaime Martinez.

M.I.A. shared, “The theme of counterfeits, of those that produce and sell them has always been part of the culture of M.I.A. When I was contacted by Versace, it seemed a great idea to invert the circle. Versace’s designs have always been copied, now it’s Versace that copies the copies, so those that copy must copy the copies. So this will continue.” Despite the copious amounts of copying taking place, I’ll admit I’m a bit intrigued. You’ll be able to shop the M.I.A. x Versus Versace collection online and in select stores October 16th. Anyone interested?(Styleite/WWD)

The article was penned by the artist herself, who wrote, “New York wasn’t everything I thought it would be. It did not welcome me with open arms. The first year, I was held up at gunpoint. Raped on the roof of a building I was dragged up to with a knife in my back, and had my apartment broken into three times. I don’t know why; I had nothing of value after they took my radio the first time.” Tough life! For the full story, head over to Harper’s Bazaar. (Harper’s Bazaar)
