The Stella McCartney woman is powerful and confident, knowing what’s on-trend in the market, but never falling victim to a fad just because designers are telling her to. The brand’s latest collection for Spring 2014 radiated that forceful energy, with looks that were right in line with the structure Mrs. McCartney has become known for, alongside exotic-embossed pieces and florals.
The color palette of the collection was predominantly neutral with navy, white, black, and camel playing centerstage. Splashes of red and Fall-perfect tones gave the designs pops of color.
We all know that McCartney is as eco-friendly as they come, but she played around with exotic skins here, presenting croc and giraffe print jacquard on sheer separates that artfully combined function with fancy, contrast trim bomber jackets that could just as easily double as dresses, and simple sheaths.
Spring is nothing without florals, thus McCartney splashed the age-old print on structured jackets, high-waist pencil skirts, and trousers. The pattern also came in the form of sheer silk pieces, showing skin in a feminine yet sophisticated way.
Lace made the best cases for red carpet looks, with tunics, knee-length skirts, and a stirring slew of sheer dresses crafted from the fabric. I can’t wait to see how the brand’s fans like Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Thandie Newton, and Kerry Washington wear the designs in the coming months.
