Gareth Pugh’s collections are always this beautiful mélange of Star Wars-esque fashions and a futuristic kind of romance that feels simultaneously modern, but altogether unique. His latest for Spring 2014 was a departure from his norm with a bit of old Hollywood glamour thrown in the mix, alongside his signature outer space aesthetic. With out of this world feather headpieces, blinding metallics, latex, and brights, the collection was surely a sight to behold.
Sky-high feather headpieces were presented straight out the gate, setting a glamorous yet extraterrestrial mood for the collection.
The rest of the beauty looks continued that same strange yet totally Pugh juxtaposition, with retro-inspired pin up girl waves and eye makeup that could only be compared to a Star Trek character. When paired with feminine shift dresses, turquoise bias-cut maxi skirts, wrap coats, and draped blouses, the pieces read quite elegant.
Leather played on boxy bustiers, form-fitting pencil skirts, otherworldly jackets with raised, circular shoulders, thigh-high peep toe boots, and more.
Shiny plastic also made a strong statement in the collection on everything from bad ass LBDs to skinny trousers.
On some of the most exciting and supremely feminine pieces, the aforementioned plastic was rendered in small squares, resembling paillette embellishment. It takes a bold woman to sport Pugh’s pieces on the red carpet, but these definitely made the best case for functional, yet glamorous attire.
