Confirming rumors made in July, Barneys has announced their holiday collection collaborator this year will be Jay Z. Jigga, with the help of several luxury and indie labels, has created a range of holiday products under the fitting title, “A New York Holiday.”
The retailer and the rapper tapped names like Balenciaga, Rick Owens, Alexander Wang, Acne, Lanvin, and more to build a mens-focused offering with a sprinkling of gender neutral and home products. Still, it sounds like there will be several items ladies might want to snap up for themselves; Proenza Schouler designed their very first mens bag for the collection, and Balenciaga contributed a rather appealing boxy leather backpack. From Greg Chait of The Elder Statesman we get a ski mask and a colorblocked cashmere blanket, which sounds just about right for optimal snuggling. One of the most expensive items on tap is a yellow gold Hublot watch with black alligator straps and a deployment buckle for $33,900.
Jay is obviously thrilled about the collaboration: “With this project, Barneys New York and I were able to take the slickness, energy and innovation of New York City and translate that into quality, timeless pieces,” he told WWD. “Everything that encompasses ‘A New York Holiday’ — the items chosen, the amazing designers that participated, the windows, the design of the BNY SCC Gallery — represents a perfect example of a unique and groundbreaking collaboration that I hope demonstrates how inspiring New York has been to me.”
“A New York Holiday” is set to drop November 20th, and will be available until January 3rd. A few items will be up for preorder prior to launch. As they have in the past, Barneys set up a little shop-in-shop to house the items, dubbed “BNY SCC Gallery” (that’s Barney’s New York, Sean Corey Carter Gallery to you!) Barneys and Jigga will fête the unveiling with an event for the Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation.
You can find the collection at Barneys flagships in New York, Boston, Chicago Beverly Hills, San Francisco, and at barneys.com.
