Elevated sportiness was the vibe for Marni designer Consuelo Castiglioni this season. Clinging to the label’s tried and true aesthetics, Castiglioni brings forth a range of elevated sportswear, with more than a few bells and whistles to boot.
The collection starts off simple enough– wide-legged trousers, capris, high-waisted silhouettes, lots of straight tunics in solids and prints. Visors and flip-flops added to the athletic feel.
And then things started to get more complicated. The effortless silhouettes were still there, but this time there is a generous serving of embellishment to enliven pared-down looks. Floral appliqués added dimension to sports jackets, skirts, and blouses, ruffles added the label’s signature feminine touch, and beads, pailettes, and gems gave a taste of excess.
Some of the embellished looks seem a little too much, or too heavy for the average woman. Those are certainly pieces for someone more adventurous. Still, there is something for everyone here. No doubt die-hard Marni fan Solange Knowles might take a turn in the more flamboyant looks, and I could even see her older sis Bey trying on one of those printed jackets.
