Dolce & Gabbana’s signature Sicilian glamour was given an ample dose of dazzle and sparkle with its gold inflected Spring 2014 collection. The collection oozed luxury, from its colorful fur separates to its scintillating, light catching cocktails. Pesky tax issues won’t stop the show! Instead the duo turned up the decadence with lace, ethereal fabrics, and gilded embellishments.
Sicilian/Greek relationships were said to be the inspiration for this season, fitting, as Greece is notorious for tax evasion. Designs evoked typically Grecian reliefs: bouldered columns and amphitheater like structures were cast on shift dresses and pencil skirts, offset by signature Dolce & Gabbana lace. Need extra coins? The collection had more than enough to spare, as Greek inspired coins were spied on repeating patterns, or molded into oversized necklaces and belts.
What Spring collection would be complete without florals? Sicilian almond blossoms decorated fit and flare dresses, bustiers, high waisted bikini bottoms, and fur trimmed car coats. 3D flowers uplifted sheer dresses which revealed delectably lacy undergarments.
And what a finale! A troupe of beauties stormed the catwalk en masse, wearing gold from head-to-toe.
Some have said this might be Dolce & Gabbana’s last show, given their financial foibles. It would be a shame to lose them from the Italian fashion landscape, but if the rumors are true, what a way to go out! 78 looks and more spare gold and coins than you can shake a stick at.
