New designer Rosie Assoulin is making waves in the industry, already catching the eyes of high-fashion retailers. For the brand’s Spring 2014 collection, Assoulin plays with volume and sophisticated silhouettes: a very evident departure from the bodycon and crop top predilections of other NYFW designers, though the latter does appear twice for good measure. The color palette runs the spectrum from cherry red to white, with stripes and colorblocking thrown in for flair.
The collection is heavy on easy separates from ruffled-side strapless tops to drawstring trousers.
Some of the looks are so pristine in their simplicity that it’s hard not to fall in love with them. Clearly, Assoulin has a winning formula and I hope she sticks to it.
The collection does have its share of pieces that could work for the red carpet and I’d love to see ladies like Kerry Washington, Beyoncé, Lupita Nyong’o, and Naomie Harris gravitating toward Assoulin’s designs in the coming months. A salmon-colored halter gown is breathtaking with its retro-inspired silhouette, while a strapless ruffle-back fiery red number will be sure to turn a few heads at a movie premiere or film festival.
