Jason Wu served up his quintessential femininity paired with glitz and glamour for his Spring 2014 collection. A pared-back offering from some of his bold and in your face looks of seasons past, the designs were still brimming with power, though in a more relaxed fashion.
Though not the most phenomenal, the utilitarian pieces really anchored the collection in functionality and a sense of realness, which is often far removed from designers’ runway looks. Bermuda shorts, simple white sheaths, a chiffon-accented sweatshirt, and suiting were certainly aimed to be building blocks for the Wu woman’s seasonal wardrobe, as well as giving the brand some viable options for retail.
The collection’s palette was fairly achromatic, with powder blue and camel lending some color to the assortment.
Most notable was the sheerness present in so many of the designs. Whether showing some skin on the bodice of Jourdan Dunn’s midi-length dress or cleverly exposing the midriff on a strapless two-tone top, the diaphanous fabrics really drove home that carefree air while adding a dose of sultriness.
