The Fashion Bomb News Breakdown: Alexander Wang to Host Secret Event This Saturday, Project Runway Ad Banned in Los Angeles, and L’Wren Scott Teams With Banana Republic,
By The Fashion Bomb Staff

• Alexander Wang‘s sent the whole fashion world into a fit today! The label announced via Twitter that they will be hosting a special, one time only event at the Highline Stages this Saturday, June 17th. Little information is known about the shindig, except that it is at 2PM with first come, first serve entry. To keep updated on the deets of the event, email july13@alexanderwang.com. Hmm.. I think I’ll have to definitely check this one out! What do you think it is? (@AlexanderWangNY)

• The city of Los Angeles has banned the latest campaign imagery for Project Runway‘s 12th season. The shot depicts a needle-brandishing Heidi Klum, clad in Mrs. Carter Show Marie Antoinette-esque gear upon a throne alongside Tim Gunn, both placed above a harem of naked male and female models. LA deemed the ad far too vulgar for public display, and might digitally superimpose underwear on the nude minions, for modesty’s sake. New York City will run the ads as is. What do you think? Should this particular campaign have been banned? (Vogue UK)

L’Wren Scott and Banana Republic have joined forces for a 50-piece holiday collection, set to bow December 5th. Pieces include “little perfectly fitted and beautifully made jackets,” according to Scott. “The blouses are gorgeous. I did some really great L jeans, my signature jean, in fun colors and a nice brocade. I also did a drawing, a peony print from my garden, and put it on jeans.” Prices will range from $39.50 to $198. • The first images for Lanvin‘s Fall 2013 campaign are out. Shot by Steven Miesel, six men, including Bryan Ferry‘s son Tara and model Edie Campbell, were tapped to pose for the ads which will hit magazines in September. (WWD)

Swarovski has teamed with Maison Martin Margiela on two capsule jewelry collections made from Crystalactite, or fused crystals and matte white resin. Offering both a ready-to-wear and couture collection, Margiela showed pieces from the more expensive range for their couture show last week, which will be out in November with price points in the thousand dollar range. The lower-priced Atelier Swarovski line will be available for half the price. If you’ve got the extra cash, you’ll be able to purchase the pieces at Atelier Swarovski and Margiela stores. (WWD)

• Joseph Altuzarra is this year’s U.S. representative  for the International Woolmark Prize. Over the next six months, the designer will create a capsule collection (made from wool, of course) to present in competition with four finalists from India, Australia, Europe, and Asia. The winner will receive an additional $100,000 to go toward developing his or her line. (WWD)

H&M has given us a second sneak peek at their forthcoming Isabel Marant collaboration. The retailer posted a snap of Marant fitting a male model in an abstract graphic black and white shirt. What do you think? (@HM)

• Fulfill your dreams of early 20th century-period glory with Downton Abbey‘s branded 10-piece gift collection. Boasting products like scented candles, lip glosses, soaps, nail polish, and more, you, too can get fresh like the Dowager Countess of Grantham or Lady Mary Crawley. Prices range from £5 ($7.50) to £49.50 ($74) and will be available at 250 Marks & Spencer stores this October. (Daily Mail)

I think the ad would have been printed in any number of fashion magazines. I don’t see it as vulgar necessarily, however, if it was meant for a billboard I can see why they would not put it up. Parents would have to explain to their kiddies riding along in the back seat….”Mommy why are those people naked on that sign?”….*SMILES* Honestly, in the realm of “nudity in print”….I think there are far more vulgar photos out in the world and far more harmful things happening in private……and this is LA…the city of “Angels?” Ha!

  2. Natasha says:

:lolz: Heidi and Tim are literally serving the kids. The ad is eye catching while still being tasteful. As to kids seeing it, S, I think it could be looked upon as art and discussed as such. And you’re right, there’s a lot worse out there.

I agree with the city of LA, the ad is indeed vulgar. This orgy inspired ad seems to be more geared towards swingers than up and coming designers.

H&M can kick rocks with their poor quality clothing. They can team up with the greatest designer known to man, the end result will still be very CONWAY.
