The Fashion Bomb News Breakdown: Jourdan Dunn Gets Nixed From Dior Couture Catwalk, Alexander Wang Initially Turned Down Balenciaga Gig, and YSL Names New CEO
By The Fashion Bomb Staff

• So far, Raf Simons’s Dior shows have been cast with mostly white models, but for Fall 2013 couture, there were a few brown faces on the runway. Thankfully. One particular face, namely Jourdan Dunn’s, was missing from the smattering of top models of color who graced this season’s catwalk. Dunn was originally scheduled to be in the show, but got booted from the lineup before she even had a chance to walk. According to Dunn, she was let go for being too buxom: “Ahahahahahahha I just got cancelled from Dior because of my boobs! I (love) fashion,” she divulged via her Twitter account. But no sour grapes for the model here: “I’m normally told I’m cancelled because I’m ‘coloured’ so being cancelled because of my boobs is minor : )” Well, when you put it that way… (Vogue UK)

• If her turn down the Versace runway was any indication, Naomi Campbell is definitely getting on with her life after the split with ex-boyfriend Vladimir Doronin. Page Six reports that things are heating up between the Russian billionaire and current squeeze Luo Zi Lin, Naomi’s former mentee on the US version of ‘The Face.’ Sources tell the rag that Campbell is moving on with support for her supermodel friends, namely Kate Moss. “She is feeling a lot better and has put it all behind her,” the source told Page Six. “She is focusing on her show and is in a very good place.” Nothing can keep Queen Mother Naomi down!(Page Six)

• So far, Alexander Wang is enjoying a pretty good turn as creative director of Balenciaga, but he wasn’t always keen on the idea of serving at the helm of the brand . The designer divulged to Vogue that when he was first offered the job from Kering (the label’s parent company) CEO François-Henri Pinault, he turned it down. Wang told Pinault that he was so busy with his namesake label, and if he took on another project, he’d “be the most hated man in fashion!” But after a turn through the Balenciaga archives, and a visit to a psychic (who told him the job was part of his destiny) he decided to set aside his doubts, and take on the role. “I felt that fear was driving my decision-making,” Wang said. “So I wrote down a list of pros and cons and asked myself, ‘What am I afraid of? The perception of failure? The perception of what people might think?’ I knew that what I wanted completely outweighed all of that.” (Vogue UK)

Yves Saint Laurent is experiencing even more shakeups. After replacing creative director Stefano Pilati with Hedi Slimane (who proceeded to rebrand the entire label) last year, the storied French house has named Francesca Bellettini, former executive director at Bottega Veneta, as their new CEO. Starting September 1st, Bellettini will replace Paul Deneve, who is pursuing opportunites in the tech industry. Hedi Slimane’s role at the label has also expanded. The designer will also “supervise all strategic projects for the brand,” in addition to his duties as creative director. (WWD)

• In honor of Franca Sozzani‘s 25th year as editor-in-chief, Vogue Italia is celebrating with a six- (not 25?) cover issue, BONANZA. Tapping the talents of Stella Tennant, Gisele Bundchen, Linda Evangelista, Natalia Vodianova, Raquel Zimmermann, and more, the Italian fashion bible fêtes Sozzani’s quarter century anniversary in style. Check out all the covers at Styleite. (Styleite)

  1. Apple says:

Jourdan’s implants are awful, models don’t need fake boobs

  2. above-par says:

Simons wanted that runway as white as he could get it.

  3. karma says:

How do you know her boobs are fake?

  4. Ayanda says:

I don’t think jourdan has implants I think they got bigger because she has a child

  5. Sandra says:

People have to keep in mind that their base customer is white and many of them are willing to spend big money to set them appart to the masses so they have to cater to them because the only color these people know is green and money speaks louder than anything else.

I still don’t understand why we get upset when they don’t cater to us when we already know how the fashion industry works. As far as I am concerned, I don’t care! Jourdan will be alright.
