Henry Holland excels at whimsical, outrageous design and his latest looks for House of Holland Resort 2014 are right in line with his signature aesthetic: fun and flirty pieces for fashion’s most daring. Taking cues from the performance getups of Motown’s most famous ’60s bands including The Supremes and The Jackson 5, the offerings are spilling over with dazzling prints and retro-inspired silhouettes: with a modern twist of course.
A starburst pattern is recurrent in the collection, sure to send its wearers straight into the sartorial stratosphere. Adorning everything from pleated cropped trousers to otherwise simple leather pieces, it’s pretty irresistible and will definitely make its mark everywhere from the red carpet to the pavement.
’60s-inspired looks would be nothing without a psychedelic pattern or two and Holland’s iteration of the age-old print gets a current spin when splashed on bermuda shorts, cropped blouses, banded ankle sweatpants, pencil skirts, and more. One of the looks boasts the only oversized graphic t-shirt in the collection, which is quite shocking given the brand’s predilection for the silhouette.
Some of my favorite styles in the selection are those covered in oversized jeweled buttons, adding a handcrafted air to the pieces without being kitschy.
Holland has a taken a more refined turn here and it is truly refreshing. Rita Ora has been the brand’s 2013 poster girl and I can easily see her in most of these looks.
