The synergy between designers and supermodels is pretty important for a brand. Zac Posen tapped into that interaction with a mannequin who put her stamp on the fashion industry decades ago: Pat Cleveland.
The casting was intentional, placing Cleveland alongside her daughter Anna. Posen’s aim? To tear down the conventions of age that seem to be an obstacle in not only fashion, but the celebrity world in general.
The collection itself is all about femininity and romance from airy pleated chiffon to flirty florals playing on peplum and ruffle-detailed dresses.
My favorite designs offer a bit more structure, in true Zac Posen fashion. A blush pink peplum dress will look absolutely divine on the likes of Kerry Washington, while some of the mermaid silhouettes will be a shoo-in for Sofia Vergara.
The casting here is perfect. Zac Posen often chooses women of color for his runway shows which is always refreshing and it is great that he is now also aiming at a more mature age range: we all know socialites and ladies who lunch from all generations love his pieces. Clearly, Pat Cleveland hasn’t lost her edge one bit and can still work the camera better than girls decades younger.
