Mike Jeffries is totally cool with these people wearing his stuff

Abercrombie & Fitch CEO Mike Jeffries is backpedaling on statements he made about not wanting ugly, fat, or poor people to shop at his stores. In a statement released the morning, the A&F boss attempts to clarify his harsh words: “I sincerely regret that my choice of words was interpreted in a manner that has caused offense,” he said. “A&F is an aspirational brand that, like most specialty apparel brands, targets its marketing at a particular segment of customers. However, we care about the broader communities in which we operate and are strongly committed to diversity and inclusion. We hire good people who share these values. We are completely opposed to any discrimination, bullying, derogatory characterizations or other anti-social behavior based on race, gender, body type or other individual characteristics.” I can tell you from my experience working at an A&F owned brand that the last sentence is completely untrue, but wouldn’t it be nice to think it was? If you care, do you think Mr. Jeffries’s apology is sincere? (Vogue UK)

•Three workers died in Cambodia yesterday, after a building housing a shoe factory collapsed. The structure in question served Japanese sporting goods company Asics, and is believed to be owned by Taiwanese company Wing Star Shoe Co. Ltd. 11 workers were injured, but authorities advise that the death toll might rise as victims are treated for wounds. Back in March, workers at Wing Star protested the poor working conditions, and although management acquiesced to some of their requests, it seems the effort to create a safer working environment went overlooked. •Last night, Versus revealed its latest offering, designed by JW Anderson, ushering in a “whole new era” for the brand. The label celebrated the partnership with an elaborate fete, with a guest list boasting the likes of Heidi Klum, Joe Jonas, and Woody Allen. Anderson’s 90s-influenced designs serve a healthy dose of Versace’s trademark sex appeal with crop tops, cutouts, asymmetrical hemlines and high-thigh slits exposing peeks of thigh. J.W. Anderson’s offerings will be available for purchase June 15th, so if you’re feeling anything, save your coins! (Vogue UK)

•The Cannes Film Festival opening was a parade of gorgeous gowns and layed coifs, but the affair wasn’t without its share of mishaps. Julianne Moore took the red carpet looking fab in a Dior frock, but unfortunately, her strappy sandals would not cooperate. The actress just could not get her pinky toes into the sky-high contraptions, leaving her littlest piggies to languish off the the side. Maybe they were trying to get some air? (Daily Mail)

ha!! I worked as an assistant manager at abercrombie and was in charge of hiring. we had a quota to fill to make sure we weren’t only hiring white people because of all their recent lawsuits. and i was supposed to pick good looking kids to work the front of the store, and all the black kids from the hood worked in the back (and worked their ass off). wish it wasnt true but it was. needless to say, i was out of there. horrible company, horrible values. and the clothes are not only hideous, theyre so cheaply made in third world countries, where i am sure there are no building codes or acceptable working conditions. i cannot believe theyre still in business and the disgusting scent coming out of the stores is atrocious.

ps, i love the pink outfit from jw!

@ Mike Jeffries…..I detest when people make disparaging remarks then apologize. At least have the balls to stick to your belief and not bow to public pressure. I would respect you more, even if I didn’t like you or what you said.

Julianne Moore is old enough to dress herself better.

  4. Danielle says:

Mike Jefferies can have several and some more. His apology is worthless. Nobody “interpreted” anything, you said what you said in plain English.

  5. Marsha D says:

Thanks Jihan….I had to stop eating lunch after looking at dem dayum toes :-/ And ditto to Anynomous…she knows better…change that shoe.
    (LOL)

  6. Allure says:

I have never shopped in Abercrombie and after this, I wont be anytime soon. The clothes never really impressed me.

  7. Dkixx says:

Mike Jeffries can go suck his balls sac, if he has any, with that fake ass apology. That punk knew what he was saying.

As for Julianne, who da hell told her to step out in those shoes! They need to be fired ASAP!

  8. Miss Monèt says:

What’s the point in apologizing? Stick by what you say, especially when that’s how you really feel. The Abercrombie brand is already tarnished. Whatever he says now is not going to help the company.

  9. dkny says:

That sh*t is so played! A&f stuff is so boring and most black people never liked that urban country looking crap.

  10. tasha says:

Use to be a manager at A&F and yeah they are just racist. We had so many rules when it came to hiring people.

Julianne really shouldnt have walk the red carpet in those.

  11. lmao! really on the toes…. It dont fit ma!

  12. Shady says:

Can we bring Urban Outfitters and its racist corporation to light?

  13. Honeybrown says:

I will never purchase anything from a&f… Mike Jeffries is absolutely disgusting, needless to say its a lot of people in the industry that feel that way that he does they’re just able to hide it. Now Julianne knew dag on well that strap was cutting off the circulation in her baby toe, why walk the red carpet ???

  14. Fefe says:

They (whomever they are) need to move faster to address all of these manufacturing catastrophes because this is truly outrageous and my heart goes out to these people that have lost their lives and their families that probably depend on them for whatever the wages are that they had been earning : (

And Mike Jeffries should have kept his BS apology to himself because it’s made him look even more disgusting. I too am tired of these people making these seething statements that are then “misinterpreted” by everyone on Earth. I mean really?

    No comment on the toes……

  15. Lyn says:

The fashion industry/ brands really should be pressured into investing more money into the/ their factories. God knows, they have enough money. And if every clothing item has to go up 50ct for those people to have better working conditions, so be it.

  16. Anonymous says:

    LMAO

  17. S says:

Mike Jeffries your apology is worthless. You said what you meant the first time. Have the “huevos” to stick to it. Your store never got my money anyway. Julianne Moore…..you know better. Put on some shoes that work with your outfit and…..oh…I don’t know…..Fit!

  18. LaNa says:

It’s interesting how arrogant some marginal brands become upon success. They think they are Cocoa Chanel or something. Now that the owner has made it clear that he is a dictatorial bigot and purposely moving in the opposite direction of global change, I wonder if the company’s sales will plummet enough to shut his pitch dark “surf” stores down.
