Less than a year after Cosmopolitan released its two issue a year magazine geared towards Latinas, appropriately titled Cosmo Latina, Glamour is following suit with its new beauty magazine for Latina women, Glam Belleza Latina. With Jennifer Lopez as the face of the debut issue, the quarterly glossy intends to burst into the market with a bang:
The magazine is a celebration of the diversity of Latina beauty and culture, touching on beauty tips, travel, skincare, and so much more. It intends to connect with the younger demographic by featuring both English and Spanish text in a 90 to 10 ratio.
The glossy will keep Glamour’s Editor-in-Chief Cindi Leive, while bringing on Veronica Chambers as Editor and Sarah Vinas as Art Director.”We are thrilled to expand the Glamour brand with Glam Belleza Latina. Our readers are beauty-obsessed and Latina millennials are such a large part of our readership, making this a natural evolution for us. I’m so proud of the authentic, sophisticated, aspirational magazine that Veronica and Sarah have created. We can’t wait to hear what readers think!”, says Leive.
Jennifer Lopez dishes on her thoughts about Latina beauty with Veronica Chambers in the issue: “Latin beauty is the rainbow. We have black, we have white, we have caramel. We have blonds, we have blue eyes, we have brown eyes, we have the darkest of the dark skin. Latin beauty is for everybody.”
I think the idea is pretty genius! Hispanics will account for more than forty percent of the growth in the millennial population over the next decade and the number of Hispanics in the US has grown forty percent in the past ten years. The demographic contributes $1.2 trillion in buying power, so why wouldn’t a magazine cater to their needs in a new and fresh way? (Yahoo Finance)
Look out for Glam Belleza Latina as it is poly-bagged with Glamour for opted-in Hispanic subscribers, starting with the April 2013 issue, though it will also be sold on select newsstands in NYC, LA, and Miami for $4.99. Check it out now at glamlatina.com and on Twitter and Facebook at @GlamLatinaMag and facebook.com/glamlatina.
As a half-Latina woman, I’m so happy that Glamour is doing this! I cannot wait to see what the magazine has in store this year and I will definitely be checking out every issue.
What do you think? Will you be reading Glam Belleza Latina?

cute idea but why not just include minorities in regular glamour?
they love to keep “us” separated..

So obvious that J-lo has created her plastic surgery transformation to EUROPEAN.
Why not ensure that all women of all ethnicities are represented in the current magazine?
Why is it so important to keep things “seperate”?
Dead at the writer feeling the need to state “half latina”…

IA w/Bella. Latinos come in all colors and races…do they know Latino is not a race but simply denotes language?

Glamour is a lackluster magazine in general. I hope the latina version is better, and not just a way to make money off of latina consumers.

I agree @bella

I agree with the above. I get the effort but lets just include everyone equally in the first place

The term hispanic is problematic, most of us prefer to be identified as latin@. I completely agree with the fact that they always like to seperate Latinos and black culture. When in reality many of us grow up together and experience the same issues of racism in this country. I grew up in a latino and black community and I am very proud of that. Also we need to keep note of the fact that all Latin American countries have a history of indigenous and black mixing, which is never represented in magazines like these…or in history in general. “Latin beauty” is always represented as being white or mixed, when there are dark skinned and indigenous beauties that make up a large majority of the Americas. Alas, I guess mainstream media will never portray these ideals.

…and they are unable to incorporate this into the regular Glamour magazine because?! Print editorials are a dying breed regardless of the demographic.

There is the obvious allure that it will actually be in Spanish! While I agree that beauty be separated, I like to read in Spanish. Additionally, I am thrilled to think of the jobs this opens up for bilingual writers in this field.

These girls better work… Love the idea. Finally some color in a professional editorial format. Hope to see Joan Smalls on the cover soon. As for all the shade being thrown at the publication… if they have the budget to produce something and see a market for it, more power to them. That’s the American way.

As a latina working for a company that is OWNED by an afro-latina. I think it is time that magazines that are geared towards us… represent the FULL spectrum. We always get J.Lo and Zoe Saldana repping for the “afro-latinas”. Show us bushy heads and prietas.. IJS
I, also, hope that they highlight and feature businesses owned by us and for us….brands that think of us as afterthoughts are constantly shoved down our throats with no mention of anything else. This mag is the same as Latina and Cosmo Latina…NEXT! SHOW ME SOMETHING DIFFERENT!

So is there going to be a glamour for African or Black woman?if you don’t know the answer is HELL NO. America loves to leave black people out. Are we not a race with a variety of skin colors and hair types. Smh I guess African- Americans just aren’t an important race even though OUR ancestors help build this country for 250 years. While being abused every way possible while doing it. I know for a fact there would not ever be a white ran magazine doing a African- American addition.
