With a well-received judging gig on American Idol, and a new hairstylist to boot, it’s been practically impossible not to notice a recent change in Nicki Minaj’s appearance.
The once pink haired, over the top make-up wearing, costume donning rapstress many have grown accustomed to, seems to have ditched the “gimmick” for a dialed back beauty and style regimen.
At her MAC event in Beverly Hills, Nicki opted for a flirty white Alexander McQueen Textured Stretch-Knit Dress and Fendi Fendista pumps. Her makeup skewed soft and simple. Her wig was blonde with dark roots (presumably for a more natural effect).
When it came time to dress for the Elton John Oscar Viewing Party, Ms. Minaj bet on white again, this time shimmering in an embellished Roberto Cavalli number.
The new look seems refreshing, but who can forget Nicki’s outlandish past?
While I am enjoying the more demure side of Nicki Minaj, there are folks who are a bit disappointed. It seems they miss her theatrics, and her over-the-top ensembles. They’re simply not on board with the new look.

Ummm…..her dress is cute but I don’t like the lipstick and the wig is alittle too much. Overall its way better than those damn costumes she was wearing.

Only in 2013 is pale pink/purple lipstick, contouring, false lashes and an unnaturally blonde wig considered “toned down”.

If she’s going to do the toned down look, then her hair needs to change…that blonde does not suit her and that lavender lipstick doesn’t either. If she must do blonde, she should at least find a flattering shade. Lady Gaga was able to do over the top and still be fashion-forward and sometimes pretty. Nicki Minaj should learn from that

Shes an entertainer, I dont want to see a famous person look like an average person that I can see anyday. I say bring back the theatrics (minus the harajuku ridiculousness)

In comparison to her ‘previous’ look I suppose this is toned down. I don’t mind it too much but could care less either way…not a fan.

I can’t stand Nikki! I mean absolutely LOATHE her and her theatrics. BUT…. I’m quite suprised with her new look and I actually like it. She’s pretty and doesn’t need all the extras that she’s known for. Keep it up Nikki and I may even consider supporting your music and other endeavors lol (Thats a huge might!)

I am NOT a fan of Nick’s antics , but I can honestly say she looks close to normal here. I do dislike many aspects of her professional persona, but I cannot deny her influence on the world. She has proven to be very smart and successful and I finally see that she might be evolving from her “famous ratchet person with $$$” persona.

Nikki looks better. I was not a fan of the neon clown looks. That being said, something is still off and I think it’s her comfort level. No matter what style you are rocking, it is complete with confidence. Don’t think she’s there yet but I have hope..
