Rihanna has been curating a new style aesthetic for the past few months, a sporty/sexy mix that finds her one day in Timbs and jeans, and another in an understated skin clinging spaghetti strapped dress and simple ankle strap heels. For casual excursions and airport pit stops, you’ll see her in loose fit trousers and t-shirts. When she glams up for a night out, her slim yet curvy build can make even the most unassuming tank dress or high slit skirt shine. Her collection for River Island, which debuted last night in London, speaks to her current fashionable proclivities. Cropped tops, Varsity jackets, and slick pencil skirts reigned supreme, as did high cut swimsuits and form skimming floral separates.

Abdomen baring blouses were paired with thigh revealing skirts and shorts, accessorized by chunky platform boots, single strap sandals, hoops, and name plate necklaces.

Punchy playsuits and two pieces offered a bit of interest thanks to floral designs and more vibrant tones.

Rihanna stans will rejoice–as will saucy vixens with great bodies who don’t mind showing them off.

The showing wasn’t groundbreaking–I was hoping for a must-have tee or signature dress.

Stil I found a few favorites, namely the Varsity jacket and floral jumpsuit.

Do you see anything you like?

I have seen it before. Nothing new about this!
February 17, 2013 8:52 am
I definitely can see Rihanna rockin some pieces from this collection.
But a lot of stuff remind me of American Apparel…
February 17, 2013 8:55 am
Do you know when this starts selling Claire?
February 17, 2013 9:17 am
Nothing groundbreaking, but still cute and should be successful. I loved the sexy tomboy vibe.
February 17, 2013 9:34 am
Not impressed, I saw her with a blue jumpsuit of her collection and this one was great
February 17, 2013 9:39 am
Not impressed ill pass
February 17, 2013 9:56 am
It all looks very Rihanna.
February 17, 2013 10:06 am
Hmmm smells like American Apparel, but it does look like items she would wear.
Looks like The Kill with better financing.
February 17, 2013 10:10 am
I love how comfortable the looks are, I would def rock…
February 17, 2013 10:49 am
NO, NO, NO………………..she gets designs handed to her and these are the best outfits she could come up with? what ever happened to her versace (not even sure if it was versace) line? oh ok.
February 17, 2013 10:57 am
Very basic. Unimpressed all the ladies look like Rihanna robots
February 17, 2013 11:02 am
boring and very cheap looking.
February 17, 2013 11:07 am

She didn’t put her heart to this… these are as bad as Chris Brown and I don’t mean that in no nice way!
February 17, 2013 11:31 am
Karreuche could rock some of these looks, no shade but shade. Underwhelming overall but I’m not entirely surprising.
February 17, 2013 11:33 am
*I’m not entirely surprised*
February 17, 2013 11:39 am
i like it. I’m not sure I get the complaints of it being very Rihanna. Isn’t that the point. She’s not Rachel Roy, she’s not a designer…she’s just doing a collection because their’s demand and she probably got paid a shit load of money to slap her name on it.
It’s not her job to be out of the box..it’s River Island not Alexander Mcqueen. and again basic is not a bad thing. people need to try to BE a little basic. Fashion’s boring right now cause everyone is trying to out clever each other with their random ass outfits.
February 17, 2013 11:41 am
I am not impressed and I consider myself a Ri’s fan. I was so looking forward it and now I am disappointed. I will not support this but I am sure some will.
February 17, 2013 11:45 am
not impressed at all. Blah she could’ve did way better.
February 17, 2013 12:05 pm
Simple. Basic. Boring.
February 17, 2013 12:22 pm
Very boring…definitely getting an AA feel. Not a line I would go out of my to get.
February 17, 2013 12:58 pm
Wen I saw
February 17, 2013 1:00 pm
these are pieces I can find anywhere via h&m, asos f21. the looks are uninspired and just plain blah.
February 17, 2013 1:02 pm
I expected better. Damn, Karrueche actually has a chance to come up with a better line. I’ve had some of these basic items since my varsity days (2006)
February 17, 2013 2:55 pm
I was working on reviewing this collection for my site and came here to make sure I had the entire collection and honestly these photos aren’t a good representation of Rihanna for River Island. There are many more pieces, that look much better than these.
Not saying this the entire collection is breathtaking, but it is much better than it is presented here.

Was expecting a stronger collection as River Island alone is usually very strong on design; love their clothes.
None of this is my style. It’s her first collection so hopefully she’ll grow from this, but yeah, I won’t be buying unfortunately.
I’m more a Sass & Bide, Rag & Bone, All Saints edgy kind of girl…
February 17, 2013 4:29 pm
There is only one type of person with a certain body type who can wear and pull off these pieces…It seems like Rihanna just designed some clothes for herself that can also be bought by the public at a semi reasonable price…other than that this is very unimpressive.
February 17, 2013 9:16 pm
Claire I can’t believe u wrote “the collection would work for anyone”. NO. It wouldn’t. The collection would only work on a young woman who is great shape. These clothes are basic.
February 17, 2013 9:16 pm
its is basic yes. and comparing in to American Apparel is actually a compliment. This line is reminisent of Rihanna past looks. Like American Apparel every piece can be worn to suit the individual that is wearing it. its not just designing pieces with loud colours and obvious out there details. I love it! This line is for people who actually have style and can see beyond the actual piece not for those that follow trends. She did mention in an interview she pretty muched designed the collection based on what she likes. She started simple and has created a strong foundation. not to mention she had to make things that were in the River Island price point. Bravo Ri!

Just No
February 17, 2013 11:06 pm
i agree with jeffrey ew. i like it.
February 17, 2013 11:16 pm
and i agree there was a lot more than shown here. same/similar silhouette but different prints.
February 17, 2013 11:54 pm
Very simple and so 90s! Honestly I am going to say pass. Just because you can wear clothes does mean you have fashion direction.
February 18, 2013 12:25 am
Nothing innovative I expected it more but go rihanna…she’s doing the Damn thing
February 18, 2013 4:48 am
Maybe the silk print jumper n the red loose shorts n top…everything else..look for less..but thumbs up for a first go
February 18, 2013 4:52 am
Reuche! Is that U?
February 18, 2013 9:31 am
blah!
Blessings

This collection looks WACK! It looks like something you’d see a meth head in or on someone named Ophelia sitting in a trailer park with a cigarette in her mouth and a 40oz in her hand. Phuck out of here with this. NEXT!
February 18, 2013 3:20 pm
It don’t look as bad as I thought, with all the negative publicity from other sites.
February 18, 2013 7:54 pm
I saw this collection first hand, I loved it like someone already mentioned she’s not a designer. This collection is more about her fans being able to get her look on the high street, keeping it to simple basics means it’s more wearable. Watch the video of the collection, see that in movement some of these pieces are very different than just in a photo. She also designed some over the knee boots, which are not really shown here which were amazing. I think people are forgetting this is a high street collection, I think making pieces that are basic makes them at a reasonable price point. Rather than some of the other designers/high street collections we have seen. I think she did well, it may not be to everyones taste. But it’s a strong collection, everyone there approved of it. It was an amazing show, which I 101% loved. Like I said it won’t be for everyone taste.
February 19, 2013 3:09 pm
I didn’t know what to expect, but this didn’t do anything for me. River Island’s stuff is usually a lot cuter than this.
February 19, 2013 8:30 pm
rihannas closet??
February 20, 2013 6:23 am
Loving the colourful pieces but very basic.
