Jason Wu has had a pretty great start to 2013, courtesy of First Lady Michelle Obama. Not that he needed anymore publicity, but her choice of his designs for two consecutive Inauguration Balls has solidified him as a designer to wear of sorts. His Fall 2013 collection is a perfect demonstration of just why FLOTUS keeps choosing his creations time and time again, with the kind of pieces that make you want to shop and play. From sexy two-tone cocktail numbers to wintry fur-detailed parkas, Wu shows a robust offering for the season that will please his loyal fans and those looking to cash into his brand for the first time.
Fur anyone? There’s an ample helping of it here on the aforementioned parkas, hems of Victorian-inspired jackets, shoulders of belted leather motorcycle jackets, and all alone on a strong-shouldered white look that would give a polar bear a run for its money.
Wu plays with snakeskin and python on a number of silhouettes from a red carpet-ready strapless dress with a silk chiffon skirt to a rocker chic black biker jacket.
What would a Jason Wu collection be without lace? He really outdoes himself with the fabric on sheer trench coats, skirt suits that give a sexy spin to office wear, and high-waisted trousers.
Pops of color shine through in cherry red and cobalt blue.
Not to fret: Wu gives evening its fair share of the collection with looks that FLOTUS, Gabrielle Union, and others will adore.
