Black History Month is here!
In the past, we’ve featured vintage snapshots, the greatest couturiers, black models, and so much more (see the full category here).
This year, we are showing how some of the world’s most loved artists have influenced fashion:

From Michael Jackson’s influence on brands like Balmain and Giuseppe Zanotti to Diddy’s sartorial influence from the early ’90s to the present, it is going to be so much fun walking down style and music’s memory lanes and discovering where they’ve converged.

We hope that you’re as excited as we are and that you’ll comment away and relive it all with us! Perhaps we’ll add in some music videos for good measure.

Monday is our start date so get ready!

If you have any suggestions as to who we should include, leave it in the comments.

Pharrell Williams (N.E.RD) with his Skateboard cool dress sense.
February 1, 2013 5:12 pm
Definitely TLC & Escape in the early 90′s; since they were all girl groups they made dressing like a guy (baggy jeans and tees) fem and cool

I have to say Kanye for black men’s fashion. I never thought Iwould see a brother in tight pants after growing up in the 90′s! also Andre 3000 was wearing the Bowtie, Ivy League fitted pants look first.

For me it’s fashion and music equals Michael. The man did not care what was in style. He made into a fashion staple. Come on the blazer, cropped pants, and the signature white glove….classic!
Also, people sleep on Janet, the one earring, cropped shirts, “Poetic Justice” braids….love the creativity the Jacksons brought back in the table.
I also would say TLC, Spice Girls (bringing the 70s back), Rihanna, Solange…..love em all

Loved the style that Total (Bad Boy) evoked in the 90s. Three different looks meshed into one which translated well for them as group and what the label Bad Boy represented at the time. Pam – One of the homegirls/slight masculine look. Keisha – Sassy & Sexy. Kima – Girly/ultra feminine
February 2, 2013 12:07 pm
Mary J. Blige, Janet Jackson, Sade ♥, TLC, EnVogue!!
February 2, 2013 1:30 pm
Prince, I was a big fan of his “new romantic” look. I also like Vanity, but let us not for LaBelle . . . they were so over the top, just wonderful!
And the great ladies of the past Lena Horne, Ms. Kitt and Josephine Baker wonderful until the day she died.
February 2, 2013 1:38 pm
It would be absolutely sinful to leave out Diana Ross and Donna Summers…no elaboration needed.
February 2, 2013 6:48 pm
Sade – Red lipstick
Aaliyah – Tomboy style
A Different World show – Bohemian style
Will Smith in The Fresh Prince – Streetwear/Sneaker head style
Naomi Campbell – The Diva look
Kanye West – Luxury meets Streetwear
Happy Black History month!

There are a lot of great selections thrown out. I would add Pam Grier, Hilary Banks (Karyn Parsons), Diddy (hate him or love him the guy fashion is usually always on point), if you want a shocker lil kim (don’t shot me…lol but she was kind of like the lady gaga of the 90s in terms of shock fashion), and I would add some new comers who are slaying the game right now (black history doesn’t always have to celebrate our fallen heros).
