For his Spring 2013 Couture collection, Jean-Paul Gaultier takes inspiration from Indian gypsies. The result? His eye-popping designs blended with loads of embellishment, sultry yet magical silhouettes, and loads of color. All of Gaultier’s signatures are at play from stripes to lingerie-inspired styles, creating a beautiful and vibrant mix.
Despite the brand’s worldly influences, Gaultier is quintessentially French–and what’s more français than stripes? They start the show on a chocolate and grape plissé gown on Lais Ribeiro, turning the often very casual pattern glam. They continue on varying silhouettes.
The collection goes full-on gypsy with layered looks heavy with texture: long lace-detailed flamenco skirts, mixed prints, cascading beaded necklaces, and so much more.
Some of the most functional and most polished looks in the collection play with trousers from silky banded-bottom styles to billowing wide-leg pants.
Gaultier fans like Rihanna and Gwen Stefani will surely find some looks that are apropos for the red carpet. A bustier dress with cone bust and chiffon detailing as well as a strapless black cutout gown are definitely sexy, yet wearable enough for Hollywood’s most daring.
Are you feeling Jean Paul Gaultier’s Couture collection?

Futuristic saris? I’m feeling most of it (especially the yellow/burgundy maxi). But the mehendi feet? YES, yes, YES. You know that’s going to be everywhere (picturing Kool-Aid foot soaks and flip tops in tenements worldwide) :lolz:

do people really not realize that gypsy is a racial slur? really? it’s like any other racial slur, just as bad as any other. i wish people in the fashion world would be less ignorant. apparently we romani people aren’t important enough to not have our culture stolen from and racially slurred in the same act.
