Alie wrote in, “I’m going to the Grits & Biscuits party in DC this weekend and am having trouble trying to figure out what to wear. Everything I’ve seen so far says don’t dress up, no heels, and it’s going to be hot inside . What can I wear that will still let me be fly but cool and also not freeze on the way in and out of the party? Thanks so much!”
Ah Grits & Biscuits. The sweat drenched, Southern themed, all night dance party, filled to the gills with lithe bodies and bass knocking beats. What you heard was correct: dress for comfort, keep cool, and add a dash of sass!
For look 1, I kicked off with a leopard printed Dolce & Gabbana stretch silk-charmeuse bustier top (too pricey? Topshop has a $45 Animal Print Strapless Bralet that’ll help you get the look).
Stay covered yet comfortable in high waisted black jeans, then complete with leopard print wedge sneakers from Forever 21 (they’re $40, so you don’t have to worry about people spilling or stepping on ‘em). Accent your look with a red lip and chunky gold jewelry (pictured: a Chanel bangle and Melody Ehsani’s Queen of the Jungle Necklace). Oh and since you’re worried about the cold, I threw in a cute Rick Owens puffer coat for when you’re waiting outside:
Just want to go for chic and easy? Try an LBD. This Zip Zag bodycon from Topshop is a steal at $80, and is properly ventilated for all that dancing you’ll be doing.
Go for relaxed in a pair of Teyana Taylor x Adidas kicks, and protect your hair in a $70 OATW Collier de Chien cap (Rihanna’s a fan!). Keep the Tomboy theme going outside in the cold with a McQ by Alexander McQueen Hooded Flying Jacket:
We partnered with Joy Adaeze of JoyLovesFashion.com for the last three looks!
She wrote, “To stay warm on your way to the venue, try this $39 Delias varsity jacket. Paired with printed denim and Michael Michael Kors gold sneakers, this look gives you understated glam.”
” A quilted leather crossbody will keep your hands free while you…twerk (lol) and this “Dance” necklace is the perfect icing on the cake.”
For her second look, Joy typed, “This look has a bit of rockstar-cool. Upgrade your usual tee and jeans combo with a Markus Lupfer graphic tee and Current Elliott Ombre skinny jeans. A blue square envelope bag adds the perfect pop of color, while Marc by Marc Jacobs boots will keep you comfortable.”
” A black Prada fur jacket (not pictured) is an optional addition. Top off the look with a leather baseball cap. Tres chic!”
Lastly, she says, “If you’re feeling girly, go for this Alexander McQueen tee and TopShop leather skirt combo. Thigh-high flat boots will keep you warm and comfy.”
” Perfect add-ons for this look: a hot pink purse looks amazing against a leather jacket and rhinestone studs play up the femme look. “
