I’ve been sitting on Saint Laurent’s Pre-Fall 2013 collection for quite sometime, trying my best to pick apart the pieces of clothing that are visible in the images, as well as waiting for information on Hedi Slimane’s inspiration for the season: the latter hasn’t yet emerged so I am diving in head first. What the fashion house presents is more of a lookbook than a collection: highly stylized images on songstress/style star Sky Ferreira that give the impression that we have seen the full ensembles somewhere before when indeed we have not. Shot in mostly black and white with two color images for good measure, what does emanate from the pieces is the dark romance that was so pervasive in the brand’s Spring 2013 collection with flowy silhouettes, leather, lace, and just enough outerwear to keep the world’s “It” girls warm.
As Pre-Fall calls for, outerwear is a focus in the collection from cozy toggle coats to roomy structured numbers with showy buttons.
I invested in loads of leather in 2012, thus I’m glad that it will be sticking around for the seasons to come. Slimane presents it on a slew of movie premiere-ready LBDs, rocker chic jackets, a pleated mini skirt, and as an edgy detail on blouses.
Lace, sheer detailing, and cutouts give way to the sexiest looks in the collection. Who will be the first to try these designs on for size? Beauties like Salma Hayek, Kate Moss, and Rosie Hungtington-Whiteley were fond of the Spring looks for the red carpet, but let’s see how stars wear the fashion house’s latest creations in real time.
Any looks catch your eye?
