Let’s talk cutouts, leather, and structured tailoring: Cushnie et Ochs’s latest collection for Pre-Fall 2013 is full of them all. There aren’t too many frills besides a nature-inspired print: the designs are powerful and sexy. Bondage has a moment with harness detailing, like something out of a Helmut Newton photograph. The offerings are perfectly edited and the strength comes in their simplicity.
A bondage-inspired collection would be nothing without leather and it makes a strong presence on cropped jackets, pencil skirts, and a split neck sheath dress. Accessories are practically non-existent, save for simple black pumps letting the designs truly play centerstage.
Though mostly varying between the classic color palette of black and white, the brand does experiment a bit with other shades including a pale pink and an eye-catching print. The latter on a matching crop top and skirt might just catch the eye of Alicia Keys, since she has developed a particular predilection for the combination.
The brand has become infinitely more popular with the Hollywood set after 2012 and the red carpet offerings in the collection are sure to draw in even more fans. My favorite is the first look shown: a sheer panel knee-length dress showing just the right amount of skin. I personally can see Beyoncé killing it on the red carpet, especially with her now revealed toned physique thanks to GQ.
