Show Review: Bottega Veneta Pre-Fall 2013

Tailoring is the focus for Tomas Maier’s Pre-Fall 2013 collection for Bottega Veneta which celebrates simplicity of design, save for a ruffles here and there. From kimono-sleeve tie waist coats to office-appropriate separates, the offerings are an expert study in function and modernity with rich textures galore. Neutral shades with splashes of mahogany encompass the Fall-perfect color palette.

Ready for more leather? Well, Maier presents it here like most every other designer for the season. One style you will not find from other brands is a long-sleeve dress combining both black leather and patent leather: Bottega Veneta continues to innovate and push the boundaries of luxury which is pretty impressive for a fashion house with their history.

Menswear pieces are dominant with suits, trousers, and blazers galore. A standout look in the collection is a mahogany tie-waist jacket layered over a turtleneck and expertly-tailored trousers in the same shade, for a 70s flair.

Dresses in eye-catching abstract prints breathe some life into the otherwise solid designs.

Last, but certainly not least are the red carpet-ready ensembles that are quite covered, but completely elegant and feminine. Cutout detailing is the raciest the designs get and I’m sure fans like Zoe Saldana and Salma Hayek will be the first to try these pieces on for size.
