• Alexander Wang‘s signature downtown aesthetic had a few fashionistas wondering if he’d be a good fit for Balenciaga. PPR CEO Francois-Henri Pinault, on the other hand, had no doubts about the appointment. The French conglomerate told reporters why he thinks Wang is right for the job: “We want to make sure that the person we hire understands and is capable of working with those elements, yet pushes them forward,” he said, ”I didn’t want … [someone who] wanted to do something completely different. The challenge taken by Alexander, which I really liked in discussions with him, is for him to express his talent in a different situation for another brand with its own DNA, and he’s absolutely excited with that.” Pinault is so confident in Wang’s abilities, he hinted that the designer might even be the man to establish the label’s first couture offerings.“[Wang] has a very strong talent not only when it comes to accessible product, but his talent could also be adapted for couture at Balenciaga.” Quite a tall order! • The fashion gods have once again smiled upon Kate Upton. The buxom blonde has scored her second Vogue cover for the British iteration of the Fashion Bible. The model, clad in virginal white, gives us the most high-fashion backshot she can muster for the glossy’s January issue. (Vogue UK)

• The British Advertising Standards Authority is once again coming after American Apparel for its racy ads. The UK’s decency bureau is pulling the plug on three of the brand’s online advertisements, which an offended citizen deemed “unnecessarily sexual and inappropriate for a website that could be seen by children.” The ads in question feature women in t-shirts so sheer, their nipples are clearly (purposefully) visible through the fabric. One ad in particular prominently featured a girl who appeared to be under the age of 16, which the ASA ruled “could be seen to sexualise a model who appeared to be a child.” (UK Guardian)
• Clover Canyon has teamed with Los Angeles artist Alexandra Grant on a capsule collection to be sold exclusively at Scoop NYC‘s South Beach shop. Using her paintings as inspiration, Grant and Clover Canyon designer Rozae Nichols re-interpreted the label’s signature vibrant prints. Cute! (WWD)

I’m happy for Kate Upton. Most Sports’ Illustrated models disappear after about a year but her career is still going steady.

I’m over Kate upton. To me it seems like the fashion world is just trying to use her as Brooklyn Decker’s replacement. American apparel has horrible clothing very very basic but I’m very excited to see what Alexander Wang does at balenciaga.
