Wardrobe Query: Iggy Azalea’s Instagram Coveted Society Mesh and Leather Leggings

    by Claire

Yet another influx of e-mails appeared in our inbox after rapper Iggy Azalea posted the following saucy shots on Instagram:

Tambourlon wrote, “Iggy wore these black paneled mesh-faux leather leggings during her Chicago show on the Rita Ora tour and I really want to know where I can find them and how much they cost. Thanks a bunch!”

Tania types, “I love these leggings Iggy is wearing, do you know where they’re from?”

Is it just me or is everyone dressing like a stripper? Anywhoo…Iggy was gifted the following gems by Coveted Society. The LA based brand specializes in slinky finds with copious peeks of skin:

According to brand rep Franquie, “Yes we have had so many people asking us about them! We had them in our online store which is [under] construction at the moment, and our store which [carries] them in L.A., New York and other cities in the U.S are sold out .. What we are doing is taking orders online through email for the time being for the people who want them now … They come in black, neon green, neon pink, neon orange, and white and also color blocked.”

“They can email franquie@covetedsociety.com. The leggings retail for $58, but if they put in ‘Iggy’ as the code word, they get them for $48.”

    Ok!
Would anyone aside from Tambourlon, Tania, and Iggy wear these?

Pretty positive they aren’t the same brand but the have some very close on only leggings . com

Obviously they arent for church… some people (like myself) are a part of dance groups and they are part of some of our customs and after I sometimes wear them again as club tights. To each his own…But because something is not your cup of tea dont be so closed minded everybody doesnt see stripper when they look at certain things…but everybody has an opinion and this is just mine…

Aside from a music video/photo shoot, a performance on stage, or a paid nightclub appearance, there is no justifiably sound reason why a “regular/average/non-celebrity” female would or should wear these leggings. It’s very cute, don’t get me wrong. However, the only reason I see a chick wanting these to wear, is because she has a false sense that she is stunting on poor people. Stop. They are definitely edgy and seriously stylish, but if your job doesn’t require a costume, step away from these leggings!

BTW I have personally seen women look down on me for wearing rompers and wedges and the exact same ones literally pull their dresses up and expose their ass. So……….

They could be easily worn with a button down blouse with a biker jacket with riding boots or heels. How she styled it may not be appropriate for most, but the leggings can be toned down. How are these leggings stripper attire, but showing leg in a skirt or dress isn’t? If they were made by Gucci or another luxury brand would that stripper comment have been made? I’ve seen plenty of nipples in designer runway shows but none of those models are accused of looking like strippers on this site. The double standards between urban and high fashion kills me.

LOL I want to say something grown up about ppl being judgemental as hell but why? But I will say just because you wouldnt, why knock somebody else with the “stripper” talk?

I see this type of legging style all the time on more mainstream sites, and the editors manage not to liken them to a controversial profession..what they do do is tell you ways to style them or find them.. fancy that.

Even if they wouldnt themselves, they dont look down on you. They just pair it with a moto boot, a biker jacket, an oversized white tee and thats that. Business as usual. This is a business right? Why ask/accept reader enquiries just to …?

Love you Claire, but you are so set in your ways!! xo.

@Dyshaun I feel like you’ve written similar comments before on similar posts. Could be wrong.
Anyway, this is a blog. Sometimes I hesitate to offer my opinion because I realize I could come under fire ^^ but figured…I have a right to voice my opinion (as you do yours).
The types of wardrobe queries that come in sometimes are straight up ratchet and slut-tastic. I feel that many young women lack class, and feel the need to show off *everything* and leave little to the imagination, like Ms. Iggy above. I think it’s a systematic eroding of people’s moral fabric and definition of what ‘sex appeal’ means, probably due to our admiration of strippers, known whores, and jump offs on TV and the like.
I could choose to ignore these…most times, believe it or not, I do. But in an effort to be democratic (and provide an underserved population with something they *won’t* find on a mainstream site–I guarantee that), I include it. Just because I include it doesn’t mean I like it. And that also doesn’t mean I don’t have a right to say, “this is for strippers.” My opinion. Whether you wear it for your boo at home or straight up camel toed like Iggy is not my business. And me probably writing this long comment (or you writing yours) won’t change the way either of us feel. We can agree to disagree.
Perhaps it’s a generational thing. My Dad remarked that Teyana Taylor’s ‘slit up to the thigh’ look was better suited for a porn, and admonished me for publishing it. I’m not necessarily on board, but hey, I put it up, it’s popular. And at the end of the day, who cares what my Dad or I think?
      Do you.

Claire, I have written similar comments. That’s one of the things I enjoy about your site..a much more personal experience. :-) I hope you aren’t upset? I was just remarking on what stuck out to me. Last time I’ll comment here tho; I have a hard time reading your tone. I tried to preface my comment with laughter so that you would read it in the spirit of feedback, not criticism.

With that said, maybe folk won’t find a pic of Iggy with camel toe tights, but surely you have seen this iteration many times on mainstream sites. It’s probably called “edgy” and modeled by stick thin girls.

I didn’t need to know “where to find” these basic ass, overdone ass tights, I just enjoy reading your posts. You are SO right, it’s your personal blog…with worldwide exposure. I just assumed (my mistake!) it was a great source of pride and revenue for you, and that you’d want to be more inclusive. Whether you’d wear the item or not. I thought “wardrobe queries” were more providing a service, rather than endorsing a product/style.

And were definitely of the same generation. Maybe it’s an open-minded/close-minded thing. I think I’ll do less of me. Doing me has me apprehensive about visiting one of my favorite sites. :-)

Oh! Sorry about another long comment. I’m definitely guilty of being verbose often..but it’s in an attempt to convey the meaning behind the thinking. You understand how hard that is on the ‘net. Take care.

@Claire the young lady only wanted to know where to find the leggings. To assume she would wear them in the same fashion as a stripper is disrespectful to her. She never mentioned how she would style them. It’s one thing you express an opinion, it’s another to be rude.

just come to FL…especially central & south FL. you’ll see your share of white girls w/the classic black girl shape because they all go to the plastic surgeons in miami, tijuana, or even the dominican republic…lol! iggy’s shape WAS NOT curvy w/an ass when she first hit the scene. the tights look cute in her for performance purposes ONLY, but not for the everyday chick; not cute. as much as i don’t like this faux rapper, i think her surgically enhanced body looks much better than kim k’s.

@Dyshaun I welcome the dialogue. I’m not mad, and I’m glad this is a discussion! I think people can wear leggings with shorter shirts (if they like), though those tights seem more like stockings that would be best worn under a skirt. It also depends on your body type. Those with less curves can get away with more.
But hey, I’m not stopping Tambourlin or Tania from wearing them, I’m sure they’ll scoop ‘em up and wear ‘em how they like regardless of how I feel.
@J It’s your opinion that my opinion was rude. You know what they say about opinions…everyone has one…and we’re all entitled to one.
      Happy Halloween, y’all!

I know, I’m late! However, I would like to agree with Dyshaun. I saw that you said you posted items such as this in an effort to be “democratic” which I think is great! But, if you’re going to do so, don’t you think it would be nice to leave off the judgement. Of course everyone has a right to an opinion, but I think where the opinion is stated is important as well. Answers to wardrobe queries should be just that, where you can find the item. Not a judgement on the person who likes it. If you don’t like it, or it offends a personal moral code (which is a-okay) then just don’t post it. It just seems a little contradictory to say, “here’s where you can buy this, although no one ever should”. If the lack of class in women these days bothers you, write a full post on that. Educate and teach women to be sexy while still classy. It just seems a little mean-girlesque to post the item and then berate the people who would wear it. For the record, I would never buy or wear anything like this. I think leggings should be an accessory, not a main piece of clothing.

Hi all I’m the designer and I designed the original v configuration of the waist bands several years ago, I was inspired by a newly designed thong, I noticed how the v creates an illusion of a nipped in waist un like conventional waistbands, see the shape follows the bone structure.
For those of you feeling the newly cut waist band watch out for our brand @cwtchy_cwtchy we will bring to you the original v bands including skirts, swim wear, shorts, leggings, joggers and much more.
      Much love
      Sonia.
