The Fashion Bomb News Breakdown: Carine Roitfeld’s Taken Out A Trademark for Her Fragrance, Kate Moss Covers Vanity Fair, and American Apparel Responds to Hurricane Sandy Sale Critics

    by Jihan

    • It seems Carine Roitfeld might be launching that fragrance– and more– after all. Fashionista reports Roitfeld has taken out a trademark under the name ‘Forgive Me,’ for not only a fragrance, but an entire line of beauty products. While the world ponders what exactly Carine is asking to be forgiven for, I’m gonna go ahead and assume it’s for being awesome– and she’s not really sorry! (Fashionista)

    • Miuccia Prada and husband Prada CEO Patrizio Bertelli have commissioned a yacht to race in the upcoming America Cup in San Francisco next year. The 40 million euro investment took 52,000 hours to build with over 300 pairs of hands. Bertelli is obviously very proud of his new company toy: “I feel it’s inappropriate to call it a boat or a yacht,” he said,“It’s an industrial artifact that happens to sail on the ocean.” My, my, what gradiose wording! (Vogue UK)

    • Kate Moss‘s Vanity Fair cover is accompanied by an interview, in which she spills the tea on some of her early exploits in modeling. She recalls a time she was made to do a topless shoot as a 16-year-old girl: “I see a 16-year-old now, and to ask her to take her clothes off would feel really weird. But they were like, If you don’t do it, then we’re not going to book you again. So I’d lock myself in the toilet and cry and then come out and do it. I never felt very comfortable about it. There’s a lot of boobs. I hated my boobs! Because I was flat-chested. And I had a big mole on one. That picture of me running down the beach — I’ll never forget doing that, because I made the hairdresser, who was the only man on the shoot, turn his back.” (The Cut)

    • Back in 2010, Rina Bovrisse, a retail manager for a Prada store in Tokyo, filed a suit against the brand saying she was harassed by her fellow store managers. She claims the managers discriminated against her and other employees based on physical appearance. She also says she was ordered by Prada Japan chief executive David Seisa to fire those workers he found “fat” and “unattractive.”  A Tokyo court has since rejected the suit, but Brovrisse is looking to appeal. Prada has filed a counter suit against Brovrisse, alleging her claims of discrimination were false. (WWD)

    • American Apparel defended its “Hurricane Sandy” sale to Fashionista yesterday. “Of course we’d never mean to offend anyone and when we put the email out yesterday it came from a good place.” The retailer explained , the reason “is that retail stores are the lifeline of a brand like ours so when they are closed, we need to come up with ways to make up for that lost revenue. People forget how expensive it is to run a Made in USA brand like American Apparel and if we made a mistake here it came from the good place of trying to keep the machine going–for the sake of our employees and stakeholders.” (Fashionista)

American Apparel is always trying to make money off of something not thinking how it effects people. Once again marketing fail.

I worked for a big retail company back in the day and we had guidelines on how to hire. Basically if you werent cute and in shape you didnt get hired plain and simple. The company got sued in a class action suit. I am just not surprised by companies. This is what they do.
