Balmain is always one of the most-anticipated shows each season and Olivier Rousteing isn’t in the business of disappointment, truly churning out collections that are heavy in sensuality and boast eye-catching detailing. He upped the sexiness for Spring (if that is even possible), citing the ’90s and Cuba as inspirations. The influences were definitely palpable with strong shoulders, lots of leg, plunging v-necklines, and high-waist silhouettes.
Remember how big leather was in the ’90s? Well, Rousteing played with it here in all-black lookss that brought to mind some of the decade’s most unforgettable fashions. A cropped padded-shoulder biker jacket and high-waist leather trousers were Full House’s Uncle Jesse and Hammer gone sexy.
Leather was then paired with swirl print and basketweave pieces including strong-shoulder blazers and sweaters, ankle-length trousers, and an embroidered cropped top that seemed to have been pulled right off a bull fighter’s back.
The collection’s most-used look? A crop top and high-waist trousers, bringing to life every little brown girl’s dream of Fly Girl hotness. For all you ladies who tried out the trend this Summer, keep those abs and gams toned because it is here to stay for Spring! Some pairings were even crafted from denim: I mean it really doesn’t get more ’90s than that.
Naturally, the collection’s dresses were a highlight. Zoe Saldana, Kim Kardashian, and Beyoncé will surely be sporting them in the months to come.
