Miuccia Prada‘s “ugly pretty” aesthetic is what landed her a sweet exhibition at a little place called the Metropolitan Museum of Art this summer. It is this same unique interpretation that permeates Prada‘s Spring 2013 collection, where Miuccia presents graphic, somewhat off-kilter offerings for next season.
The collection’ Japanese influences are easy to see. Prada serves up architectural pieces boasting dimensional origami folds in silks and satins. The color palette is mostly dark, with murky black, forest greens, and navy pieces. Prada decorated her looks with flowers that seemed to be stenciled on in spray paint. The omnipresent flower was then re-imagined in plastic, wool, and silk appliqués.
Hello Kitty-esque blooms met fur in on textured coats, wraps, and sweaters.
The most talked about element of this collection was the footwear. Models stomped down the runway in leather “sock boots,” worn with thong straps (both platformed and flat), festooned with bows and (surprise) flowers.
Prada’s spring offerings are certainly not for the unadventurous. Personally, the boxy silhouettes and the monochromatic tones are not my cup of tea for spring, but I can appreciate Miuccia’s vision. I do question those leather sock boots. They are certainly not shoes every woman can (or is willing to) pull off. I’m not sure how many people are prepared to pay an arm and a leg for such curious footwear. However, the sunglasses are a hit in my book.
What do you think?

To me this collection is refreshing, fashion should be fun and a narrative. From looking at what many other designers are doing for the spring, aimed at a more traditional fashionable, feminine (possibly serious) woman, this collection is for the eccentric and certainly more daring individual.

These pieces are difficult to wear (bulky silks), hard on the eye and forgettable. This is a big miss for Prada. Their Fall line is ratched too

Ok really?????!!!! I know it high fashion and all, but seriously??? If it were a lesser known designer I am certain persons would not be raving about these horrendous outifits. As we say in Saint Lucia , Choops!!!
Yes I do love boxy sometimes, I think that I do have the body type to pull it off, but a woman needs to feel like a woman sometimes and accentuate what she has.

Um everything is very Grandmama looking. And those bedazzled socks…..oh no. This looks like a serious waste of time and a lot of money.
